TEXT message Attachments not showing

Majik_Imaje

Newbie
I can see the attachement on my phone before I send it but my gf gets the text but no attachment
and the opposite is true when she sends me a text message, I see the message but I do not see her attachment.. We must be doing something wrong. Any help ?

She : HTC ONE
Me : HTC ONE M9

Hello!
Are you both using the stock messaging app?
And is your data connection stable? I would assume the attachments are pictures, or are they some other file?

Same carrier?
Do you have the same issue with a different person....or does she?
Trying to rule out the device(s) itself/themselves I guess.

This only happens between Her & Eye. I think; (correct me if I am wrong) she needs to engage her "Mobile" option.

when she sends me a text message (from 500 miles away) That text message always says: Sent from my HTC no attachments are present or visible therefore Me thinks the messenger app is going through her E-mail

Hmm, the message you get, "Sent from my HTC" may just be an option in her text messaging app for a signature.

fwiw, when sending pictures from your text messaging apps, they are converted to MMS...which requires a data connection.
Perhaps her data is turned off?

that is exactly what I am thinking.... also. Thanks

I have to explain it to her in (Inupiaq) Eskimo.

Oh wow! You're from Alaska? Awesome!
Thus my custom designed (3dsmax)"avatar".
My gf lives here: Point Hope Alaska 99766
The oldest continually inhabited village or settlement in all of North America 200 miles above the Arctic Circle. We have had 24 hour sunlight from May - August - non stop fun around the clock 24/7/ Every one becomes "solar powered" when you stay outside. You don't need any sleep for days on end!

Well, this is not solved yet. My son can send me text messages with photo enclosed and I see it. Good. Now when my mother or my GF send me text messages. no photo ever shows up. Still do not know why this issue has not been resolved. I can't find anything in google on this subject. Oh bah humbug!

OK, the most likely cause is that the carrier is restricting the media due to a size limit.

The M9 has 5x as many pixels as the M7 and there ain't no such thing as a free lunch - your files are probably too big.

Check out "Textra SMS"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra

That has a setting that will allow you to set a MB size limit for MMS - try 1 or 2 to start.

With it, it automatically resamples your pictures down to the MB limit while still doing a really good job on picture quality for what it is.

If you like that you can get more features with Chomp, made by the same dev.

PS - this can hit the M7 or M8 too (or almost any phone), it's just going to hit you faster.

Carriers used to give an error message for this.

Now you just get a mysterious, silent failure.

Thank you so much for the detailed message. Thanks again; that all makes more sense to me than anything I have heard of so far.

I will tell family & friends about Textra and chomp!! WONDERFUL NEWS!!

Well I have installed Chomp... sent smaller photos under a meg. Still my mother and my GF do not receive the photos.
I am out of ideas. I need advice

What? Weird...

OK. Check the MMS/APN settings in Chomp.

I found that when I roamed a lot that could clear itself.

Get the auto setting, write it down, and manually set that as the constant.

If in doubt your carrier website probably has the right APN settings for that.

I will have to call my carrier(GCI) and find out the reason behind this mystery.
meanwhile while you wait.. ..I'll have to put you on hold....So, I'll play some of that "elevator" music that companies use when they put you on hold.

according to "carrier".. Each person (sender & receiver) must each have MOBILE data engaged or turned on.

Question to "carrier"..:-

How come I still receive text attachments from my son and the image displays when he is on the other side of the city and I have mobile turned OFF? Response from "carrier" : I don't know!

I am now convinced that the only 'Smart Phone" is the one you leave @ home when you leave the house.
In 50 years I have never had to charge it once.
