Text message delay and other issues...

Lurker
Hi folks, I have been lurking around this and a couple of other forums for a couple of months looking for some answers but I can't seem to find anyone with the precise problem I am having.

First off I live in the 29607 area code, we have 4gLTE here and I am on AT&T with a Galaxy S3. All system updates are current.

I can't pinpoint the exact time but I wanna say right around the jellybean update I started having a strange text issue. It seems that if I am using my phone and it stays active most of the day I don't have any issue receiving messages, however, if I just leave it in my pocket for an hour or so, or on the table at home with the screen locked for a while I will "miss" text messages.

Basically at least once every couple of days I will pick up my phone, unlock, go to compose a text and once on the conversation/thread screen I see that I have any number of new messages. With these messages I never got a notification sound or vibrate, nor did it show up on my home screen I had to actually go into the thread screen to see them. Second issue is that even when I open up one of these new messages I just have a "download message" button that I have to push to actually download the content of the message. Once I hit download I will get a notification for that and every other message I missed along the way. Lastly when the content does finally come up it shows as an mms even if it is just plain text.

I've spoken with my provider who was no help at all and they claim it is an issued with some third party app I have downloaded. I do have a power saving app (2X power saver) but I have spoken with the creators of that app who assure me that their product does not affect txt and calls only controls data for other apps. So really I have not found any help from anyone and I almost forgot Samsung blames it on AT&T...

So to recap I periodically get delayed messages (anywhere from an hour to 6-7 hours) with no notification. I have to actually open the message and download the content to read it and only then do I get notified. and all of these messages show up as mms.

Sooooo is anyone else aware of an issue like this and if so is there fix? thanks for any and all help, this shiz is driving me nuts.

oh yeah, forgot to mention my wife has the same phone we share a plan and she has the same issue.

my phone is doing the exact same thing, but the status bar on mine does still show the icon for a new text message, and it reads fine. I'm just not getting vibrate or sound notifications. completely random with mine. I'm using a Motorola photon q, with sprint, and my issue started as soon as I updated to JellyBean 4.1.2. I'm also having other issues since the update too where the shift key on my physical keyboard sometimes doesn't work in webpages and certain apps, and voicemail refuses to play through the earpiece and just plays via speakerphone.
rebooting my phone seems to solve all these issues for a few hours, then they come right back.

I've also tried booting in diagnostic/repair mode, and it didn't affect anything.

I'm thinking of just doing a full factory data reset to see if it cures anything, as often times it actually does fix glitches caused by an update.

I have the same issue on my Droid 2 Global with Gingerbread. I haven't pinned down what circumstances precede the problem, but it's very similar to what the OP has described: An influx of text messages that are sometimes hours late, occasionally a day or more late!

I don't have the app you mentioned, we have different versions of the OS, different phones, and different carriers! (I'm on Verizon).

I actually did a factory reset a couple of months ago, but have had this happen a couple of times since then.

well I went ahead and did a full factory data reset on mine, and all issues I was having before are now completely cured, everything works exactly as they should

thats good news, I might bite the bullet and try that.

Meant to mention that I read on another forum about a similar issue but not exactly the same. It said that it supposedly might have to do with wifi connections...any thoughts on that? I have home wifi and stay connected to that constantly when at home.
