text message limit

is there anyway to remove the 1000 limit on text messages? I know that seems like a lot but it seems to go fast. I've only had my phone for a month, and already I have over 100 messages with some individuals. 1 of my friends has an older droid phone and he does not have this limit, but is not sure how to turn it off on my phone. ( on his phone, the message limit is greyed out.)

What phones do you and your friend have? Might just be that yours is older and has less internal memory so it limits the number of messages. I've got about 3000 on my phone so far (about 1200 for one person!).

You could try SMS backup+ in the market. it backs up you sms mms threads to your gmail account so you can keep all your messages and even restore then to a new phone if you change

As posted what device do you have? Also do you really need to save all your messages? My bad if there is good reason, I just can't figure why someone would need to save over 1000 messages.

I have a Droid razr that's a month old, my friend has an HTC evo that's a fair amount older. I actually think that 1000 msgs can be reached pretty fast over the course of a year or so...the same friend and I have a thread that's close to 100 and that's just over the past month. Maybe my operating system is a newer version that happens to have the limit, and his doesn't...but that seems like going bkwd, not making progress

I guess I did not really answer the question in my last reply... there have actually been a number of times that I wanted to find a specific text that I either sent or received months or years ago, and having them all in the same place made it much easier. I suppose I could use a backup program and I may just have to do that... actually have 1 already that works pretty well. I was just thinking that if a previous operating system version allows for more than 1000 texts, why take that feature away? text messages don't take very much memory.
