Text message shows 1 unread message waiting

But the issue is there are no unread messages. I have deleted all my texts...pulled the battery and power cycled the phone. nothing is clearing the #1 showing. Any ideas?

If you have turned on the delivery recept for MMS, and have sent an MMS, you will get this notification even though there will not be any other indication that there is an unread message. How I clear it is to go to the MMS that I have sent, long press on the message and then tap on "view reports". Since you've deleted all the messages I don't know what you are going to do, except maybe a factory reset.

Ive been looking in many places for some idea on how to kill this problem. It started maybe a month ago and i cant fix it. the messaging icon always indicates 1 more unread read message than is true.... help please

Download one of the text message back up apps, back up your messages, then delete threads one by one until you find the one that is stuck. Restore your messages and then delete the offending thread again.

Somebody on this forum had this problem awhile back and I think they fixed it by installing another texting app that cleared out the problem.

Alternatively, in the 'manage apps' area you might try clearing the cache and data of the Messaging app to see if that fixes it.

i just recently had this problem too.

opened up hangouts and turned on SMS in settings. a message showed up that wasn't showing up in stock messaging app (strangely listed as being from "unknown" recipient even though it was from someone in my contacts). i deleted this message, turned off SMS in hangouts settings and closed app. no more unread message notification from stock messaging app.

would be nice to know how the message got lost in the first place but at least this will get rid of the notification
