I was using this app Executive Assistant for a while, then suddenly it was draining my battery like crazy. Now I use Widget Locker, which shows new email and calendar on the lock screen, but I'd like to see new messages coming in on the lock screen as well. I like the way the iPhone handled this. Any thoughts?

Use a widget called "missed it!" and put it on widgetlocker.

It just shows number of missed notifications. You can set it to notify of calls, emails, facebook or twitter messages etc. You can set it to open the apps by tapping on it.
If you want to see the messages on a popup like the iPhone, you need SMS popup or use a SMS app that has it, like Handcent or Go SMS Pro.
