Text messaging Android Gingerbread 2.3

I may be wrong on this, but if someone knows please let me know.

I bought a replacing phone, a Cricket Alcatel Authority android phone that runs Gingerbread 2.3

For texting, I am using the installed messenger (green square with smiley face- best way to describe it. I thought there was an option to insert premade texts and the option to create my own, but I am not seeing it in any options. Things like "I'll call you later" I'm on my way." etc

I downloaded Go SMS PRO and it does have the option, but jsut curious if it exists on the pre installed messaging. Thank you

Such functionality doesn't exist on my Gingerbread stock messaging app (with the green rectangular smiley face).

Unless you're texting from someplace that requires you to be quiet (like during church, class, or a meeting), wouldn't it be easier just to hit the Google Voice Search button (or the long-press the physical search button on your phone, if you have one) and then simply issue a voice command (and dictation including dictation of punctuation, if you like) to your phone? For example:

"Text to John Smith. I'll call you later." (Then hit the "Send" button.)

"Email to John Smith. Subject: Our meeting: Message: I'll be ten minutes late. New paragraph. New paragraph. Can you forgive me question mark, smiley face."
