Text messaging app GONE... just gone!

Hi - I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tab and the preinstalled messages app literally disappeared. POOF! Both me with my awesome technical skills and Verizon tech support have been unable to retrieve it. Seems that the only option is a hard factory reset which I would rather not do. So does anyone know either:

A) How to retrieve the preinstalled app or

B) Is there another text messaging app that I can install from the Play Store that will work well? There are tons available but I would like some advise on what to install.

Here's the number one messaging application on-the-market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms besides the default one that comes on the device.

Unfortunately I only seem to be able to install Go SMS Pro themes on my Samsung tab and not the Go SMSPro v3.39 app. when I use your link, it prompts me that the app is not compatible SCH-I905. Any other suggestions?
