Text messaging app recommendations?

I've spent the afternoon installing & uninstalling texting apps and haven't found what I'm looking for.

I need the app to....

  1. let me save my own (multilple) templates
  2. send to phone numbers, not just saved contacts
  3. not take up too much memory on my phone
  4. be affordable (free is good:))
  5. be reliable (not send multiple texts)
  6. save a history of sent messages
I want to be able to use this to send messages to potential sales leads. That's why I don't want to have to load them into my contacts in order to send the initial texts.

I tried Handcent & GoSMS and both ate up so much memory that I had to uninstall. Other apps that fit, wouldn't let me send to anyone that wasn't already a saved contact.

Is there such an app that meets my needs? I'd love to hear recommendations! :D

2. send to phone numbers, not just saved contacts

I think above is one of your requirement correct? Most third party SMS apps allow you to send text to a phone number but for your case you are mass SMS-ing to a list of phone numbers correct?

Even if you want to save space by not storing them as contacts, the least is you still must have a text file to store the phone numbers so the app can read them off one by one in order to do SMS sending.

Yes, I'd like the app to allow me to enter multiple phone numbers so that I can send my text msg once to multiple (unsaved contacts). I'd prefer to just be able to enter them into the "To:" field.

What do you mean by "...must have a text file to store the phone numbers..."?

I'm using an LG OptimusV, if it matters.

I forgot to mention, ALL sms apps allow you to send SMS to just multiple phone numbers not on the contacts. I've done it with stock, Go SMS, Handcent, and Chomp SMS and they all do that.

If you have 100 numbers you intend to type them in one by one? If it was me, I would store them inside a text file and then ask the app to read them and send SMS one by one. This will be more productive isn't it?

There's something called groups and select all. On contact apps, press the (+) icon beside the contact entry field and you can put check marks on contacts or the check all option. One click I selected all my contacts to send an SMS to. :)

The OP already say he don't want the numbers to be part of the contacts to save space. That is why I was saying if not going to store in contacts then store the numbers inside a text file.

Not that many, yet. Less than 50 at the moment. But, I see what you mean about it being easier to store them in a text file. Though I don't understand how I'd get a text file in my phone. Can you explain?

And would it be phone numbers separated by comma's, returns, semicolons, etc?
555-123-4567, 555-234-5678 ? <--Would the text file look like that? Or would the dashes need to be removed?

I'm beginning to see that it might be worth my time to load them as contacts in a temporary group that I can do maintenance on.

That said, what recommendations does anyone have for an app that will let me store multiple texting templates (personalized) for bulk texting to sales prospects?
I tried one (Group SMS Free) last night that I liked....EXCEPT....that it used my factory messaging app so that when replies came in, I didn't have a nice way to reply with another template.

Whatever I end up using, I see that I need it to also be my messaging app, not just a tool that uses the existing factory messaging service already on the phone.

I don't want a lot of themes, bells & whistles. Just an app that will let me use my personalized templates and will handle incoming texts as well.

Thanks!
