text messaging freezing after kit kat

This has been happening non stop and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I didnt change anything or do any thing different, but after kit Kat, my text messaging constantly freezes now. Is there a simple solution or trick I am missing?
 
Same. Cleared cached. Didnt do much. I'm restarting my.phone 2-3 times a day to unfreeze it. Well at least I'm not alone.
 
I concur with Thom. I'd either do a factory reset, or I would delete all text messages and see if that fixes it.

I've done a factory reset and I've also switched to Hangouts for SMS. I've had absolutely no text messaging issues. I did have some issues in Jellybean with messaging with some particular conversations where I had to delete the whole conversation in order to keep it from force closing (or freezing - I can't recall which. It happened months ago.)

So, another idea if you want to try holding off on a FDR is to switch to Hangouts for SMS and see what happens.
 
My issue seemed to magically go away. No more freezing. I was thinking of changing to Hangouts! Might give that a chance!
 
Yes. You will loose all data, customizations, and added apps. It is not to be entered into lightly.

I do a Factory Data Reset after any Major system upgrade like Jelly Bean to Kit Kat and not for minor upgrades within a major release.

Back up your photos (and contacts, etc) on one of any clouds. I use G+ to store my photo's and Verizon backs up my contacts (as does Google). I switched to hangouts for texting and so far it's working well. Previously, I'd only used it for occasional vids to a few friends or my parents. I'm enjoying it so much that I may drop Whatsapp - I've not been using it as much anymore.
 
... and consider this ... you really ought to have the backup anyway. If in the next minute your phone is lost or stolen you are in the same position. I would also recommend one of the facilities to find/reset your phone remotely if needed.

I feel like Mr Magoo (or Ronald Reagan) here....I just bumble my way through life everything magically comes up roses. Specifically, in Settings, Backup & reset I check Back up my data and Automatic restore. Whenever I replace a phone, or do a FDR, it restores nearly everything including my custom apps along with their settings, WiFi settings, Google contacts, custom ringtones and wallpaper. Share your pics with Google+, and you won't even have to back them up. I use everything Google and not the manufacturer (Motorola) apps because I don't want to be dependent on manufacturer apps if I change brands. Additionally, if you use Android Device Manager in your Google account, you will have Lock, Wipe and Locate for free. I literally do a FDR in about 10 minutes. Crazy, it's like someone thought of all this stuff before I did.

Like I say, I'm just Mr. Magoo bumbling through the construction site, but, yes, because it's all in the cloud....Photos app or Google+ for photos, Google Play Music for music, Google Drive for docs, Gmail for contacts, etc. I lose the things stored local, but I don't mind because I can still access them from Google's servers. Texts, will be wiped, but I use Back up to Gmail, and they are still in my Gmail All Mail folder. I think the trend is to encourage us to use more data and less local storage, and that works for me because I don't use all that much data (less than 1 gig a month). On a FDR I skip the part about searching for contacts, because I just sign in on Gmail, and voila!! I'm sure this won't work for everyone, but it works great for me. BTW, I appreciate your posts. I'll try to remember to Thank more.

If you use Dropbox, Dropsync really is a great app. I have a folder on my Dropbox account called "Maxx", and in there I have synced folders from Dropsync called "data" (not the whole folder - just one called "backup", where the app Plume stores its backup data); one called "DCIM", which is all of my photos and videos; one called "Download", the default location of any downloads from the Chrome browser; "media", which has folders for ringtones, notifications, wallpapers; "Pocketcasts", so I can easily get all of my downloaded podcasts back if there is a problem. Dropsync can be set up for a two-way sync, just like Dropbox works on a desktop, or for one way syncs in either direction, upload and delete, etc. I use 2 way syncs for everything, and what is good about that is that I can cull my photos on my desktop computer and delete things I don't need to save - they get delteed from my phone on the next sync.

Great app.
