Text Messaging Trouble

Hi all,

I am having trouble viewing all my text messages in the default text messaging system. It only goes back a few hundred messages. Do all of the other messages get deleted? Is there a way to restore them?

I also have Handcent SMS application and it says I have 4000 messages with one of my contacts, but I can only view a couple of hundred of them. Is there anyway to see the rest of the messages? Are these messages deleted or merely being archived somewhere that I can retrieve them?

Thanks in advance for your help!

in the stock messenger app go to settings and see if the delete old messages option is turned on.

Some android phones don't seem to like having text threads in the thousands. I would suggest using the option above and a 1000 text limit per conversation, less if you can bare it.

Thank you for the response. Do you have any idea how to just see the text messages within the Handcent SMS application? It's just weird that it says there are 4000 texts, but I can only see a few hundred. I wonder if it gets archived somewhere else on the phone? It's hard to believe the messages would be deleted but the application would still say that there are 4000 messages.

In the stock messenger, is there an auto delete button that you are referencing or are you just talking about setting the storage settings at the top?

Thank you!

There is an option in Handcent to show the More button - check if you have that enabled.

The option makes the app only show first series of messages and if there are more it shows a Show More or something like that button. You press the button and it shows another series.

I tried that, but it still only seems to go back a few hundred?? It seems as if they are either deleted or archived somewhere on my phone but I do not know how to get to them.

Thank you
