Help Text msg to group

I have a group in my gmail contacts called basketball, populated with parents of the kids on my team. I want to send one message to the group but when I create a new message and search for the group its not an option. The individual contacts of the group are there but not as a package.

I've tried going to people and long pressing the group with the hopes I'd get an option to send email or text but no such luck.

Any help?

I'm interested in this as well. My X has not arrived yet but I use the group text function all the time to contact my soccer team, which I have a contact group setup for.

Handcent can do this. You could install it just to send and receive these types of messages. I'm not sure about the new Hangouts app with integrated SMS - I haven't set that up because I still want the Assist app driving mode to read received messages out loud.

Thanks I found handcent yesterday o accomplish what I want. Yet another non native app that is potentially leaking my information for something that should be a basic function of a 600$ phone.

Why can you create groups in people if you can't use them for anything.
