Text notification tone getting cut off

I have an mp3 I use as my text notification. I had used it on my Galaxy S and it worked flawlessly, but on my S3 it gets cut off the majority of the time. Has anyone seen this or know what the cause might be?

There is another thread on this around here. I think the issue was narrowed to to the length of the conversation getting too long and bogging the app down. Try deleting your conversations, then setting the message limit in each thread to a lower number. Worked for me!

Fyi I set my limit to 100 messages per thread and the issue persists...

I never had a problem with the whistle, but maybe I switched it before it got too many messages. I'll try paring it down and see what happens.

All you have to do is uncheck delete old messages

Yea? Uncheck and let the threads go on and on?? Guess that makes sense as the messaging app doesn't have to delete a message every time a new one comes in, lessening its workload and letting the alert sound play more easily?

Do you run into other problems with the threads getting super long? On past phones, I've experienced messaging apps getting wonky when dealing with long conversations...like in the 1000's...

May I ask how you moved this MP3 from your S1 to your S3? I mounted my S3 as a USB drive on my PC. When I copy the MP3 to my S3, I get a prompt asking me if I want to convert the file and it warned me that if I don't do the conversion, it may not work properly. I chose to do the conversion. The conversion actually clips off part of the sound file.

I copied the files again, but this time I chose not to convert the file. The unconverted file worked normally.

I don't recall whether I got that message or not, and if so what I might have selected.

The only negative I've seen is when the threads get super long the keyboard starts to lag when typing a text that's when I delete all of the threads.

Hope you can help, Ive just bought galaxy S3 and every text message I have received has come through but i have not heard it - no sound at all. My calls come through fine and I have checked settings, notifications is on, ive selected a ring tone too but still no sound. Ive taken battery out, also deleted all messages and I am at a loss as to what to do - any suggestions pretty please ?

This may sound ridiculous but have you made sure the Notification volume in particular is high

When you press the volume button the volume changer that appears on screen has a settings cog, click that and make sure all 3 are high.

in settings/device sound/volume, there are 4 volume settings:
music,video,games other
ringtone
notifications
system.
They are all set to highest so I really dont know. any other ideas?
there is an icon on my screen where the time is , on the far left, its a circle with a line through it with an "i" in middle - is this something effecting it?
