Text Notification Tone

I have changed my text notification to play a mp3 file, the problem I have is that when I receive a text the tone only plays for about 1 second, but if I wait for my text reminder app to work it plays the tone in full.
Any ideas anyone?

copy any MP3 music and paste it in /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
to select go to settings/notification

That's what I have already done, I can select my mp3 but it will only play for a second when I receive a text and when the reminder comes in it plays the mp3 in full.

used shorter MP3 tones

The file I'm using is only 11 seconds long, if you have to use a shorter file what's the point in being able to use mp3's?
