text to speech issue

I have an ASUS tablet, running 4.2. I have several text to speech programs, but they don't work on e-mail, or parts of webpages, in part because I can't select and copy the text like I can on my PC.

any ideas?

On my phone (s4 running 4.3), many apps will bring up the selection slider-bars if I long press on a text field. It works on chrome and sometimes in gmail. The places where it doesn't work is mostly apps that have some other function mapped to long press (and sometimes that brings up menu with share option where you can share to another app that is more easy to copy from).

This is probably nothing new to you...but just wanted to double check you've tried long pressing the text.

If there's an app that would extend this functionality, I'd be interested to hear also.
