Help text to speek... help

Hi there, im fairly new to the andriod phone, and hav got a X10i, can any body help me with the text to speek ! i cant seem to get it to work ,(well, more like i cant work it out)
its not that i want to use it but would like to know how to use it and have it working on me phone,

I thought speech to text was for 2.0 and above or is it not?

This has a working text to speech function that is pretty good but still interprets some random things - which are great for a laugh but I'm not sure I'd trust it entirely! For example I tried saying / texting to my husband that I was a sad ar*e and it interpreted it as I have a fat ar*e (which I thought was very personal and quite rude from a device thats only known me for a few weeks!!)

The keyboard gives you the chance to have qwerty/compact qwerty and numericT9 keypad for input.
