Help Texting annoyances on the fascinate

just got the fascinate coming from a droid inc. and love the screen, most of touchwiz, and the way the native message app looks but have a few problems with it:

one, the fact receiving a text message doesn't turn on the screen.. i kind of rely on this sometimes... although it cool how the puzzle piece appears to take you directly to the message

two, the keyboard. this one realllllly has been pissing me off. I don't really like swype, so I prefer to use the regular android keyboard. however every time I type "lol" it automatically suggests/enters "LOL"... i pretty much never use all caps on that phrase. and if i type "haha" it automatically enters "Hagar".. really? can you honestly tell me more people say the word "Hagar" than "haha"??? there is no way to remove these from the dictionary because they're pre-installed, and i need to have suggestions/typing error fix on... any way around this other than installing a different keyboard?

other than that, im lovin this thing!
 
I use noLED to alert me to text messages. Seems to work pretty well for my needs.

You can turn off swype by pressing and holding where it says 'Type to compose' then select keyboard to turn off swype. Im not sure if you can remove any words from the swype dictionary. But that would be nice! (disregard i just read your post again and realized you are already doing this LOL)

Try this: Where it shows you the suggestions for your typing... Hold down the one you want and it saves it as the default. It worked to 'haha'

To delete words from the dictionary highlight the word and hit th swype key ;)
 
If you root, you can use backlight notifications and then your lights at the bottom will come on when you have a text. Works great.
