Texting via Wifi??

What are my options for being able to send texts over a wifi connection? Gonna be flying this weekend, and it's a long flight. The airline offers free wifi, though.

Google Voice can do that. I think sitlet meant that instead of Google Talk....

I read that Voice has a long lag/delay, unless you set it for very frequent updates, which will drain battery. Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks!

I haven't heard that. The Google Voice Adroid app uses push notifications, so the battery drain is not bad.

Oh, I was kinda vague in my post. What I had heard was that the outgoing texts go through quickly, but that incoming ones do not.

Can someone tell me how you send texts in Voice? When I open the app, it brings up a voicemail inbox. Where do I go from there??

Menu > Compose?

Keep in mind that for any text you send using Google Voice, the recipient will see your Google Voice number as the sender - recipients may not recognize the messages as being from you.

Strange, my first one is "Compose". You can also hit "labels" and a text Category should be there, you there should still be a Compose in that menu.

Compose - Refresh - Labels
Balance - Search - More

There is no Compose in my menu. ?? I see:

Refresh Labels Balance
Search Settings Help

I switched the Label to Text, and still no Compose. I am uninstalling the app and then I'll install it again. I even tried going to the Market and downloading the update..no luck. Hang tight. :)

Still not there. I don't understand. Maybe it is because I opted out of letting it be my voicemail app??

Also, with the new install, Text doesn't show up in Labels. :(

I may have found my problem on google's website. Sprint user. It says corporate numbers won't have the ability to use the features, and mine is a small business account. Wah!

I guess I can use a different google number though??

You can.

Nope -- that's unrelated.

Unless you're a non-corporate Sprint user and opt for integration. Or port your number.

Worst case, I can chat with someone here and there via Words w Friends. I'm cancelling this account soon (sprint), and I'll try it again when I'm on my new account. It's dumb that this account even still is a business premier account. I no longer get any perks, and we no longer have half a dozen lines..it's just me. I kept it business premier for the perks, but there are none anymore.

But if anyone else knows of an app for texting through wifi, please post. Thank you!
