Help Texting with the Nexus 7

permitit

Lurker
I am new to the tablet world and was wondering if you could text message from the Nexus 7 since it is not a phone therefore not having a number to text to?

Download the Google voice app from the play store and sign up for a free account. They will issue you a #. You can also port over your existing phone # to Google voice if you have a Sprint phone.

I could be wrong but the last time I was playing with Google Voice it asked me if I wanted to port my number over from Verizon. Very tempting to be able to text from any of my devices.

does tablet talk work while tethered to a phone?

You have to be "tethered" to a phone for it to work (sort of). TT needs to be connected to the phone specifically (need the app on both devices), so I use bluetooth for Tablet Talk, even when using wifi tether for my internet/data access.

I have tablet talk but I can't connect using my wifi any help

Use bluetooth. Wifi was a little hookey for me, especially if using wifi tether for data. And you need the app on both devices, some people don't understand that at first, so just sayin....
