Help Texting

This is my first Android phone- Razr Maxx. I love the phone, I hate the texting. I just want texting the way it was on older phones--I want a notification on the screen that you can see, not some tiny icon at the top and I want it to store as much as the memory holds, not start deleting at 200. I tried two apps, Handcent and some other-both actually show the message on the main screen- I don't want anyone looking at my phone to read the actual text, I just want notification that the text is there. And I don't know if they have any effect on storage. I just want the old Verizon text system back. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi perkiegina - Welcome to Android Forums. Sorry to hear you don't like the new texting. You might want to give SMS PopUp a try. It lists a privacy option as something that is available as well.

I use chompsms and it will pop up when you get a message in any app or even the lock screen and allow you to reply without leaving the app your in or the lock screen!

Here is an awesome application for that purpose and many other features. Totally cool.

Tap link below: Note: By default msgs will pop-up on screen, but has the option to disable that action. In my opinion - this is the 'best' messaging app ever. :)
