Root textnow? xt1031

A friend of mine has a xt1031 that seems to be locked down with some weird carrier. All he wants it for is to be able to use apps on it on wifi. When you boot it up, after the motorola logo, it goes to this "TEXTNOW wireless" activation screen and wont do anything else. I have cwm installed on it but with this activation thing on here locking it down, i cant get the cfw rom files moved to the phone. Any advice?

nevermind, i figured it out. i rand a bit through the activation, and it finally registered on my pc to let me move files over.

I have a textnow moto g and I would like to root the phone and go with ring plus. If could please tell a newbie how you did this with your moto g I would be very grateful. Thanks
