Help Textra

DWFII

Well-Known Member
I asked a question about sending photos a couple of days ago and I got a response that highly recommended Textra as a messaging app. Out of curiousity I installed it to check it out.

But Textra is not notifying me of my messages. I have Samsung messages installed as well and it has always displayed the number of unread messages on the icon. I've tried to set up Textra to do that but it isn't showing anything. I have to check the Samsung messaging app to see if I have any messages.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Hmmmm,
it always alerts me that a message is waiting, but I never tried to make it tell me how many...
will look further................ Nope, that option is just not there.
To me, what does it matter? It tells you that a message is waiting, I don't care to know how many. you have to open the app to read one, or 20, so why worry?

for those contacts that "make a difference in life to me", I assign them a special Alert Tone....
if I hear that tone, I look at it.... if the default tone I use, I ignore it until I feel like looking.

Thanks...I'll reveiw my options.

But let me ask you...let's say someone sends you a text and you don't have your phone with you. So you come back to it several hours after the text was sent. How does it alert you? Will your blue blinking LED keep blinking indefinitely? Is there never a little number...like a superscript...on the icon itself?

I have that happen on occasion.

The blue blinking LED just sits there, faithfully sending out a Light Signal to you forever, and ever.....
that is the first thing I do when I get back to where the phone is, is look at the top for the blinking light.

blue for me is SMS
Green is Notifications from my bank
Red is for Charging mode, it is solid when charging, blinks when it is full and is dimmer.

I don't have any other colors set up, those are the only ones I care about.
I refuse to allow any other app to have notifications period. that includes Email, and especially that POS called Facebook and Messenger.

You can pull down the notification bar and check your pending notifications. There will be little icons on the top right of the screen to show you you have notifications.

The badge counter (the little number on the icon) that you mention is a launcher specific feature. I don't know what phone you have, but on some default launchers like Samsung TouchWiz, Textra isn't supported. I use Nova Prime launcher which can support all apps for notification badges via the Tesla Unread addon. I can even change the badge colors.

I also use Nova launcher prime along with Tesla unread. I have a badge on Textra showing the number of texts not read.

Danny, where did you find how to turn that on?
I am the same as you, Nova launcher prime

maybe it has always shown a number? unless I put on my reading glasses all I see is the icon

Have you installed Tesla Unread?

Nova Settings>Unread count badges>make sure toggle is turned on>scroll down to Tesla Unread settings>turn on toggle for Textra.

Nope, I did not, and I had "unread turned off" because to me, Notifications are an aggravation, as I had mentioned before.

I just now turned it on, and that brought up the link to download "Tesla Unread"...
let that install, will watch it for a day or two and decide if I want to keep it....
