Help Texts only come through when screen is active

Hi, I've just found this forum and hoping you can help with a very annoying phone problem.

Texts, What's App messages, notifications etc only seem to come through when I activate the screen or unlock it.

I've searched through the settings but can't seem to figure out how to sort it out.

Could anybody offer any tips please?

Try rebooting your device first, if the problem still persists then
try a factory reset OR a software upgrade.

There's not much you can do in a stock rom.

You are likely having the same issue I was having. The phone turns off the wifi connection when it goes to "sleep". There is a setting on your phone you can change and I now get Whatsapp and HeyTell message notifications when my phone is idle or in "sleep" mode.

Try this...

Go to Settings, then Wireless and Networks, then Wi-Fi settings, then press your Menu key (left of Home button), press Advanced, then Wi-Fi sleep policy, then press Never.

@Kazoober, this solution would work only when the problem was with the wi-fi, but as kellyfantastic has mentioned that he is facing this problem with normal texts also which are not related to the wi-fi at all.

First off, kelly could very well be a woman, therefore you should have said "he or she".

I realize normal texts will come through regardless of Wifi or not. However, kelly has referred to also not being able to receive Whatsapp messages.

If kelly is using wifi to send/retrieve "Whatsapp messages, notifications etc" (which could be a number of different apps) then changing the setting as I proposed will allow the notifications of those type of message apps (Whatsapp, HeyTell, etc.) to come through even when the phone is idle and the screen is not active.

yes you are correct, my apologies i should have written he or she.

Kazoober you are not reaching the root cause here, if the problem was regarding the apps using wi-fi alone, then the wifi sleep policy could have been the issue, but if you look again the problem is with texts also, hence it is clear that the wifi is not the issue, its the notifications delay that is the issue.
If it had just been whatsapp then even i would have suggested the sleep policy at once, but its not the case.
You cannot dismiss the texts notification issue just because you have a suggestions for other notifications, if you correct the texts notifications, the wifi apps problem would be solved by itself.

Kindly think about it again and offer a solution.
