Root That USB no SD mounting thread again

The issue with lost USB connection has been discussed a lot but I haven't been able to find the def answer yet.

I have rooted the Desire. Installed CMG 7.1. Went through all the hoops and got it to work for me. But NO USB anymore. It does recharge via USB but no SD mounting Yesterday it was flaky; sometimes asking me if I wanted to use the Desire as a hard drive. Today I haven't seen it yet.

Q1: where is the problem? Is it on the Desire or the pc?
Q2: Do I need HTC sync or should I completely uninstall it?

There are so many variables and parameters that can be altered on the Desire that I don't know where to start looking.

Q3: should USB debugging mode be on or off?
Q4: what other settings are necessary to get this thing in motion?

I have performed the recovery procedure of update.zip this morning (just to be sure) and that worked fine. Does that mean a 'yes' to your question?

What is accessignle ?

no, it's not accessible on other pc's (winxp / win7)

I guess that means I need to go through the procedure you suggested?

I'll take a deep breath and dive then.
