The Big C

B-I-L update. They have his surgery date set for Oct. 29th. They met with the surgeon a while back and he laid out exactly what he wants to do. He is talking some serious surgery that will be life changing. He wants to remove his lower stomach and the top of his small intestine and some of his colon. It sounds pretty drastic but such is cancer. After consideration, they decided to go through with the surgery. Please keep the man in your thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. That is life changing as I very well know, keep the support system up with him, he'll need all of it.

A B-I-L update: His surgery went well though it was a bit more complicated than anticipated. They removed more stomach than first planned. His tumor had partially attached to his spleen and liver which took more work. The upper intestine and colon surgery went as planned. He lost a kidney due to cancer when he was only four so his body was a bit out disarranged. So they moved his remaining parts around to even out his upper body. With all of the invasive surgery, his recovery has been excellent. Not to say it's been any fun for the guy but he is doing better than anticipated. There is a chance he might get to go home tomorrow. That will be two or three days ahead of the original forecast. As most all hospitalized patients, he's way ready to get home and into his own bed without being probed hourly. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to all of the positive thoughts that have been expressed and felt for the guy. He needed every bit of help available.

Today was my B-I-L's day to escape his hospital incarceration. He is doing very good and was very ready to go home. It's hard to get well when you get no rest. There is no place like home for that comfortable chair and that wonderful bed.

Over a year later and multiple chemo sessions and procedures my B-I-L is slowly wearing out. The cancer has spread to his lymph nodes and more chemo is his future. He is a tough man but I fear he is losing the battle. They gave him less than three months without any treatments and procedures. The year fighting has not been pleasant. I do hope it has been worth his effort, pain, and suffering. That is a very hard road to travel.

So sorry to hear this news, we always want to think once out of the hospital all is well again.

My S-I-L was rushed to a Dallas hospital last month for a major event that had her coughing up enough blood to cover the floor of her home.

Stomach Cancer !

They did alot of work, kept her for a few days and sent her home. Day after Thanksgiving she had another event and they sent her back to Dallas in an ambulance. Lots of speculation and lots of things done. She is being released next week in time for Christmas. The plan is for her to visit us on Monday or Tuesday.

Be supportive and don't show fear, that is all you/we can do OB.
