I bought a couple of these for my wife and myself. The wake sleep function works well with no sleep with the cover folded behind. Hard to beat for less than $10. A Velcro flap holds it in and if cinched up tightly fits snugly. Still being careful but this is better protection than some I've seen.

Oh and with the double row of holes for the speaker, the sound is good.

Am still looking for a case like the Marware Micro Shell, have one of those on my Kindle Fire and it is just right. Hard plastic on back and all sides and a cover that is soft to the screen and plastic to the outside world. Cover folds to prop the Fire in landscape but folds out of the way when reading with no tabs, catches or flaps to be in the way. Contacted Marware today and was told no Nexus 7 after being told it's coming a couple of months ago (guess iPad / iPhone owners have more money to spend). Anybody seen one like that?

After reading horror stories of cracked Nexus 7 screens from being dropped, I bit the bullet and also got me one of those Gumdrop cases.

Painfully pricey at $49.95, it does however offer me peace of mind. Specially since its my 10 yr. old son who uses it most of the time to play games.

I understand some people need the extra protection, but I can't handle putting something so bulky on any of my devices. I picked up my N7 today at OfficeMax, and it was the last one they had in stock.
Last night, knowing I was going to go out and buy it today, I bought the Poetic off amazon: Amazon.com: Poetic Slimline Portfolio Case for Google Nexus 7 Android Tablet by Asus Black(Automatically Wakes and Puts the Nexus 7 to Sleep)(3 Year Manufacturer Warranty From Poetic)(Final Version: With Secure Magnetic Closure, Cover Able to Fully F

my case may have very well saved my N7 today i dropped it face first at school and it landed on the case saving the tablet

I had the puregear dualtek fir my maxx but i needed something with a hard case so i got the otterbox commuter. Its def a good case like the reviews say...its like a hocket puck haha.

(Sorry, I'm too-new a member to post a link. But Amazon has this case, which I am delighted with.)

Speck Products Fitfolio Tablet SPK-A1628
Nexus 7 FitFolio in Harbor Blue

My Nexus 7 fits into the mostly-plastic clip-on back, and the smooth, soft, fake leather wraps around to the front. Uses a plastic (but very solid-seeming) clip to hold the case closed. All the "fittings" are immediately accessible because they're not covered by the plastic part of the shell. (In fact, the cut-outs are sloped to allow easy access.) The Nexus is very easy to remove, but is very solidly held.

It has four indents in the cover to let you change the angle of the (landscape) viewing -- but nothing to use for portrait (it stands up fine though). I keep the cover on when I'm desperately running and jumping in Temple Run, but it doesn't get in the way.

It has the magnet-thingie-- but I haven't figured out yet how to use it.

Haven't dropped it yet. Don't plan on it. {wink} Very slim but the hard case seems protective. My mom (89-yrs-old) just ordered the same case in red for HER Nexus 7! (My plan is to print out a photo of the TARDIS on vinyl paper and cover the case-front (well, the 2/3rds width to the stitching; I think the bending of the case will wear out the vinyl?)

I also have ordered a Google Nexus 7 Tablet Slim Fit Leather Case (Light Blue) with Smart Cover Function by Supcase (TM) - B62; but I can't imagine wanting to replace the Speck one. (Oh, the Speck was $29.43 with free shipping/Amazon Prime; the Supcase is $15.98 including shipping from Brillotech

I purchased this one and am sending it back:

Rotating Google Nexus 7 Case with Multi-angle Vertical and Horizontal Stand and Smart On/Off switch-Black

Amazon.com: Rotating Google Nexus 7 Case with Multi-angle Vertical and Horizontal Stand and Smart On/Off switch-Black: Computers & Accessories

The front side leather edges interfere with pressing the back, home, and 3'rd key (whatever that 3'rd key on the right is called).

Now, I am looking for another case that allows rotating (Portrait AND Landscape) mode.

The iBlason for my iPad Mini that I returned was perfect - nothing covered the front, and it rotated. However, on their Nexus version they have leather covering the front.

I have the iBlason thin folio case and love it. It only does the easle thing in portrait though.

Those front pieces that cover parts of the front of the device are why I can't see getting one of these. Too bulky and very bothered by any interference with movement on the screen.

What is the downside of the "easel thing" ?

Some people want a case to prop up the tablet in portrait and landscape. The iBlason folio only does landscape. However, the folio also does not get in the way of using the device. The complaint about the case interfering with the three soft keys was for a different iBlason case. I love the one I got and fully recommend the slim folio by iBlason.

I'm using the poetic slimline. Its awesome.

I assume you mean this one:

Amazon.com: Poetic Slimline Portfolio Case for Google Nexus 7 Android Tablet by Asus Black(Automatically Wakes and Puts the Nexus 7 to Sleep)(3 Year Manufacturer Warranty From Poetic)(Final Version: With Secure Magnetic Closure, Cover Able to Fully F

It caught my eye this morning when I was looking for a new case. I currently have something very similar to this:

Amazon.com: Blurex Ultra-Slim Case for Google Nexus 7 inch Tablet -- With built in Multi-Angle Stand + Premium Screen Protector Film (Clear),black: Computers & Accessories

And although its good, I want something a bit thinner.

One thing I can't stand is cases that cover most of the front bezel like this:

Amazon.com: Google Nexus 7 Tablet Slim Fit Leather Case (Black) with Stand by Supcase -Black, Sapphire Blue, Green, Purple, Light Blue, Deep Pink, Deep Blue, Red, Pink, Yellow, White: Computers & Accessories

So the poetic one seems to fit most of my criteria. For anyone who has it, how is it as a stand? I don't often prop it up but on occasion I need to. Also, is it very lightweight and thin?

Thanks!

I would avoid the poetic version. It's ok but after a month of use the seams for the joints are cracking and it's a pain to keep it standing up. The protection is great though.

I have the poetic, and love it. I'v only had it for a couple weeks, but it is holding together well for me so far. I don't expect any case to remain pretty, that's why I have a case on there: to take the abuse and protect the device.
The poetic stands well in both positions, but the higher angle in not as stable as the lower. Simple physics really. Slim, love the cover, stays closed and flat, auto wake works perfect, Andy decal (ebay) looks nice on it too.
I find mine was very worth the money spent.

Thanks AtheistRev, I'm 99% sure I'm gonna get one. One more question if you'd be so kind.

How well does the front cover fold back? I often have the device in my hand with the front cover folded against the back.

Does this answer your question?

Fits well in my hands. I like to hold it landscape for thumb-action.

I got this from Amazon Japan and I find it very slim and handy, also it has the auto awake feature but there is a small problem, when I bend it totally flat under the screen upon opening the magnet seems to be tough.. it turns off again! so when I use it I refold it again upon opening. here is a photo and link...

I bought this one on Amazon Japan and found it very good.
When I open it and fold the upper surface bellow the lower surface the auto awake feature re-functions again and turns the device off..so I fold it half beneath the device instead of a flat fold.
