The Centura has a very durable screen

Mine has small scratches all over it from being in my pocket. But for the first month or so it had none at all. Everything wiped off with a shirt.

Frankly screen protectors are such a cheap investment, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't rely on them instead of just letting their screens deteriorate.

I have never used a screen protector for any of my phones and I have never had a issues with scratches.

Only because I don't want to spend the money on a good one like a zagg etc. Because my phone only cost $100 so it would almost be a third of the cost of the phone. If I had a high end phone it would be a different story. Also I have a really hard time getting it on without a few specks of dust underneath and the closest mall that has a kiosk where they put them on is more than 2 hours away.

I even went as far as paying best buy $8 to put on my $3 screen protector and still it had a few specks of dust with a bubble around them. They tried twice and still couldn't get it right so they refunded my money!

Where I live it's very very dusty it's so annoying.

I used to use them, they just always peel up around the edges after a few weeks/months and I get a different phone every 2 years or so anyways.

I guess I'm just not that fussy about bubbles when it comes to keeping scratches off when I can buy screen protectors cheap on eBay. Just saw them for $1.75 a piece as a matter of fact with free shipping.

Believe me I wish I wasn't lol but for some reason an actual scratch irritates me less than a bubble or speck of dust under the protector.

I just had a thought. I may try buying a universal type and only cover the viewable area of the screen. It seems as it would be much easier that way to get all the bubbles and dust out. I could also do a wet install and the water wouldn't get near the corners of the screen or the speaker and there would be no down time for the phone to dry. Besides, I could live with a few scratches on the non-viewable areas of the screen.

In fact I remember seeing a 2 pack of matte screen protectors for the iPad at Walmart...It's only $10 and I could make a bunch of them just using a ruler, marker and some scissors.

I know, I'm obsessive lol but this may be my last effort. What made me rethink this is because I'm afraid that over time, sand will eventually cause scratches since it can even scratch gorilla glass.

I bought a 3 pack of screen protectors from newegg. Got a 4th one for free/accident. They are the only ones I have got so I don't know if they all come this way, but these came with a cloth to clean the screen, a card to press bubbles out, and the screen protectors have sheets of plastic stuck on each side with tabs to pull them off during application. Went on with no bubbles. I had orignially bought one, had a bubble from dust because I didn't apply it right. I like these, which is why I bought extras. Cheap and will hopefully save me from extra damage. I also got a phone protector case that is the flimsy/rubber/gel type that I like because they seem like they really absorb shock without being bulky. So far my phone has held up to a few drops on some very hard surfaces.

Maybe check newegg for more options at cheaper prices.

I have no doubt I could apply a screen protector perfectly If I didn't live where I do. I live in Florida but it's not all palm trees and beaches like many people think  I live in the country where there are dirt and limestone roads everywhere. Everything is constantly bathed in a coat of dust and dirt every time a car drives by.

The closest (small) city is Gainesville about 45 minutes away and there are no Zagg, Ghost Armor etc. Kiosks and only a few stores like Best Buy and Cellaris that will install screen protectors that you don't purchase from their store. Best Buy couldn't even get one on with no dust! The employee told me he could do a wet apply type perfectly If I bought one online and brought it to him so I'm considering Ghost Armor.

One of the down sides to owning a low end phone and living in a small town or city is you have to buy all your accessories online. I was actually shocked to see that Cellaris in the mall actually sold one type of case for my phone lol.

So far I'm still scratch free even when checking with a flashlight...yes unfortunately I am that OCD :banghead:

P.S. I just checked and the closest Zagg kiosk is 135 miles away and the closest Ghost Armor is 291 miles away!

Ok I hear ya on the dust then. That sounds very dusty lol. Trust me, I'm not being a smart ass, I just can't comprehend how dusty it is if it can't be applied indoors. But I hear ya about finding accessories. I live outside city limits.. a city of 700 people... and updated technology around here is rare. I am just used to getting anything tech-wise online. Totally off topic but I ordered a sony smartwatch and am still waitng on it... I am excited yet nervous... cause these phones aint worth much lol. Hope it all works smoothly.

No offense taken I never thought you were being a smart ass :) Dust seeps indoors here so easily you'd be surprised.

As far as the Centura this is my first smartphone so to me it's like going from a Kia to a BMW lol.

I hope you enjoy the watch they seem very cool!

I'm in the same boat. This is my first android phone. I had a Nokia e71 that I loved for a few years. Big change lol.

I had a Samsung R355C QWERTY keyboard phone for 3 years before this one that I loved. When it got water damaged and bit the dust I seen the Centura for only $50 more and couldn't resist!

I just ordered the Ghost Armor matte screen protector for my phone. I decided that since it has a 30 day money back guarantee, I have nothing to lose except a few bucks for shipping it back.

I also have a 10-pack of cheap matte dry screen protectors from eBay which should be here by Wednesday. They were only $7 including shipping and I'm going to use them to practice to see if I can perfect putting them on. They're not worth paying a store $5-$7 to put on in my opinion because the closest stores that will do it are 45 minutes away so I also have to waste gas money and time. Besides, these cheap ones get scratched up faster and I would be making that drive probably every 2-4 months.

This is my last effort so if I'm not satisfied with either then I finally do give up! I'll make sure to update and post pictures.

I bought the supposedly only 10 left for $1.40 each that I first saw on eBay and they sent me 11!! I had also bid on and won the bid on one for only $1.75 with free shipping so I now have 12! LOL I finally removed my old one with the dust bubble and applied one of these new ones. :D

Ok so I got 10 pack of screen protectors from eBay and after 4 tries I got it 99% perfect. There was one piece of dust in a corner and it still drove me crazy but the final straw was when a few hours later I already noticed some fine hairline scratches on it. If it scratches this fast, in a few months I'm back at square one putting another one on. At his point I've decided that I am done once and for all. I don't even have the desire to try the Ghost Armor anymore so I'm just going to send it back. I suppose I could pay Best Buy to put it on but since they are 45 minutes away and they did a bad job on my cheap screen protector, no thanks.

Now keep in mind I have what's formerly known as Asperger's which is now just lumped in with autism. Things that wouldn't bother or burn out others affect me MUCH differently. When my mind kicks into OCD mode I'm miserable and I feel sorry for my wife lol. I have to put this at rest for my and her sake!

On the positive note, I did make a video review of my case and it's currently uploading to YouTube. There's also a little about screen protectors and some more rambling at the end lol. When it's done I'll add it to the end of my case review. I have DSL and my download speed is 6Mbps but the upload only is only about .25Mbps so it says there's about 8 hours remaining  A review of the phone may follow If I feel like doing one. Keep in mind this is my first video review.

I just thought I'd post an update. My wife has been in SC for a few weeks now visiting family and won't be back until the first of the year. In the meantime, I had a flare-up of sciatica so I had to take a leave of absence from work. I've been bored to tears so I just couldn't leave well enough alone.

I tried the Ghost armor and it seemed to be more of a dust magnet than a static cling type because of the sticky adhesive. I tried applying it twice, and always had a piece of lint, hair etc somewhere so I sent it back for a refund. Then I decided what the heck I still have 6 of the cheap ones left.

I started thinking about it and I realized that one of mistakes was being to slow. Slowness equals more chances for dust to get in. I also ignored the instructions to peel back 1/5 of the film from the bottom and instead only peeled about 1/2" off. I lined that part up and pushed the rest down flat. Then, as quickly as possible I held it as close to the screen as I could while I pealed the rest of it off. FINALLY SUCCESS!
I only had one tiny piece of dust in the top right corner where I first put the protector on, and luckily i was able to crush it with my fingernail and that allowed the bubble to be squeegeed out.

At this point, I'm thinking did I just get lucky or am i on to something. I had 5 left so I ripped it off and threw it away for a second try. The second time was even better than the first. No dust, no bubbles. I have finally mastered how to put one of these little suckers on. Now the fact that the scratch easily doesn't even bother me because I'm confident in my ability to get it 99-100% perfect. That and the fact that they are so inexpensive. I now have 4 left for when my or the wife's get scratched enough for replacement.

Sorry for the long post and sorry if my obsession with this is annoying but If this can help anyone, it was worth it to me. I also made a long YouTube video (28 minutes) showing the process. Of course I had more specks of dust during the video and it took much longer than the usual 10-15 minutes but I think it was because I was talking and distracted from making the video. I'm not very good at multitasking lol.In the end it was still 99% perfect though. In about 16 hours it will be done uploading and I'll post a link. It's 2.6GB and I have really slow upload speed on my DSL. Here are some pics:

It appears the Centura has a glass screen after all, although it's probably not gorilla glass. This explains why keys, etc. wouldn't scratch the screen.

My YouTube upload failed for some reason. In the meantime I've discovered that after going without a screen protector for several weeks, I just can't handle the matte/anti-glare ones anymore! The screen just looks so much better without it. When I put my first one one it was when the phone was new so I never got a chance to see the screen as it should be. This time around I've decided to deal with fingerprints and get a clear screen protector. The ones I've decided to buy are made by a company called iLLumiShield. I'm going to make a new post about them just so it gets more visibility and when they arrive I plan on making a youtube video of the install.

So have I made a screen protector convert of you then? :p
