The Cinephile Phone

Lot's of emphasis on the camera this year. LG is included most of the video adjusting/ color filtering options that make modern movies what they are today. I think that's a shame personally.

I really don't like this color shifting going on in cinema today. Did you see Batman vs Superman? Nothing against the phone really just a pet-peeve of mine. LG is encouraging it with their software. Although there is the classic filter so maybe some film-noir clips will be produced. Now that was cinematography!

My feeling is that any visual effect should be used sparingly and appropriately. So if you want to colour a flashback, both to distinguish it and to set a mood/show how it is remembered by the protagonist, then fine. If you are adjusting colours for the whole thing, then be careful. Personally I'm OK with a muted colour palette in a noirish drama (classic or modern), but hyper-vivid colours drive me nuts in all contexts. I've never been able to see anyone would like falsely-saturated images like the early HDR produced.
