The future of the Captivate.

Got a captivate last week because i wanted a smart phone, considered iphone 4 but i was SO drawn toward andriod, low and behold i discovered the android community. I've been programming for years not my career tho.

I'm just curious i know the captivate is new, how long does it normally take for custom roms to surface and be reliable ?

And what makes a rom work on one phone and not another? are custom roms just modded versions of the ones distributed by samsung etc?

If you head over to XDA Developers, new roms surface every other week or so. Depending on your definition of "reliable", you would probably be able to find a rom over there that works for you. It seems like everything there is a work in progress (which is a great thing) so if you see something you want to run that you might not consider reliable, give it a week or 2 and things change for the better.
