The 'I'm returning my N7' thread......

Received my 16GB yesterday and I have the raised screen issue. Not a big deal but when you start looking at the build quality closely it's great for the money but not great overall.

The performance is excellent and the screen good but not great. Colours a bit washed out and the home screen icons are a bit blurry. Kindle app doesn't seem great in terms of clarity.

So it's going back - if the screen had been fine (not raised) I'd keep it but the device isn't special enough to me to get into the exchange loop.

Hope you guys are better pleased with yours.

If there is anyone who decides they don't want their non defective 16gb N7, I'll gladly purchase it from you and then you can avoid any restocking fees that you may incur otherwise :)

Got my girlfriend one, in hopes of her sharing it here and there....yeah, she hasn't put it down since I gave it to her. Needless to say, I need one of my own now.

I got mine yesterday and I love it there is no way it's going back.

Mine has the raised screen on the left side. It's unacceptable for a brand new piece of tech. Pre-ordered mine from the play store. I'm looking into exchanging mine for a new one. If they make that process painful in any way I'll just return it for a refund.

I'll not consider ASUS products again because of this.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong. I like JB and the 7" platform. Just bummed about the QC. Will hate to be without the thing.

By ICS, you mean JB right? ;)

I wouldn't let it get to you that much...there will always be flaws in manufacturing, not every piece will be able to go through quality control, so flawed units will get into the open market. Name of the game. Give Google a call, they will make it right.

I wanted to add this little PSA for any folks thinking of getting an N7 and reading this thread.:)

Let's remember folks that there will always be a few duds. Those with an issue will speak up and complain as they should. Those that have a perfect device will usually say nothing. I have seen it time and time again here at AF. We should just be careful to not create the impression that all of the devices or ASUS or Google are flawed. Are they perfect, certainly not.

I certainly feel for the folks that aren't completely satisfied with the build quality and have issues like dead pixels or raised screens. I absolutely agree they should gripe and grumble and let us know. They absolutely should return their device and get one without defect.

We as a community should also remember that these issues most likely only occur on a small percentage of devices and the silent majority has a wonderful new toy in there hands.

PS: For those with issues, good luck and let us know how you make out.:)

And I tried to get through to Google Play to process the return and have given up after and hour and twenty minutes in the queue. Have sent an email and if I get no response I will ask my card provider to charge the transaction back to get their attention. Launch has been a bit of a mess I'm afraid.

Frankly, I think it's crazy when people say things like, "this one piece of hardware has a flaw, and based on this one flaw, I will never do business with this brand."

Good luck with that; I've dealt with consumer electronics and computers in large numbers for the companies I've worked at for a lot of years now. Thousands of laptops, desktops, monitors, phones, tablets, etc. All manufacturers have flaws.

Only two things matter:

- Whether they take care of the problem, and
- Whether they have a frequent pattern of problems

A single instance of a problem only means that they're normal. As long as they fix the issue and they don't have a history of problems throughout all of their product lines, there is no reason to reject them as a manufacturer.

I'm absolutely thrilled with mine. No quality issues at all. Rooted mine and have downloaded many free apps to try. I will use my $25 credit to purchase premium apps that I consider the best. Only one issue I have and it's a root thing that I'll figure out, or someone here already has and I'll find it.

raised screen, not a big enough deal for me to request another one, and it likely having the same issue.

i believe a majority of them have this issue. i didn't know i had it until i saw it posted, and then i had to check from different angles in order to even notice i had it.

if it gets worse, maybe i'll request an exchange. or maybe i'll apply the "fix".

Don't think you can say a majority have that issue. I and 5 of my coworkers all bought at the same time and none of us have the issue. I think it might be just a production run that someone was dozing on, LOL.

I'd recommend that anyone with the issue get an exchange. Right now, it may not be a big deal, but you never know if it's going to get worse, or cause other problems with the screen, or provide an avenue for dust to enter, or whatever.

It's certainly not a majority of units. Absolutely, 100%, guaranteed - this is not >50% of units.

I haven't read about a raised screen so I have no idea exactly what the issue is people are having. I can feel a ridge between the screen and the bezel on mine. No clue if this is normal or not, but I couldn't care less. I do agree that the screen quality is unimpressive and the colors are washed out. I've seen multiple ASUS IPS screens and all of them have had this problem. Some of them were worse than others, but all of them had washed out colors, especially reds.

It's a simple fix... just take the back off and gently tighten up the screws around the outside.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I'm pleased with mine and now that my wife has discovered mine, I might have to keep the Google one, if it ever ships. (Ordered 6/28 with a case)

Oh, I see it shipped. Funny no email.

Meh. Mine has a slight raise. It was cheap so I'm not expecting it to be perfect. Not worth dealing with all the hassle of returning it and waiting to get another one. But to each their own, if this makes you hate Asus/Google then that is obviously your right.

For those of you already upset and ready to write off the N7 and even Asus in the future. Haven't Google and Asus already said they are allowing those users with defects to return their device for a replacement? Why not take them up on their offer?

As a former owner of a Transformer Prime, I can tell you that ALL ASUS screens have the color issues IME. When I had issues with mine, I went to a couple of places and fondled their display models. They all shared the same problem. I would avoid buying any 10" tablet from ASUS in the future just for that reason. It's not a huge deal on a 7" tablet as my usuage on such a device is different from a 10".

Exactly. Sometimes people want to just complain (you all have friends like that). Sometimes people just want to be dramatic. Its not like they are telling you to buy a case to wrap it down and thats how its going to be.

While I do understand it needs to be put into perspective. When it happens to you of course you get upset. I would. But whenever stuff like this happens, people lean to the dramatic side and say things like "99% of the people have this issue". No it doesn't. People buy cars that have to be recalled. People buy TVs that have a bad batch. The first 1,000,000 units were fine but the next 100,000 was bad. Thats what happens when you mass produce stuff. but if the manufacturer is willing to replace it or your warranty still applies or your credit card company is willing to replace it for you, whats the problem?

Now I just have to wait for someone to say "this is why you have to give apple credit because this doesn't happen to them". yes it does. It all depends on who makes the most publicity and noise. Apple tries very hard to keep stuff like this hush hush.

Its always greener in your neighbor's yard.

Yeah that is the fix, you can pop off the back and tighten all screws on the black and silver portion. BE CAREFUL, those little screws strip easy.

I had the screen raise issue, fixed myself because this thing is not going anywhere. Plus i don't want to wait 309749083679643 years till i get my next one. First production woes.

To the op, i hope you find something that make you happy, I fully agree that you should return it if you don't find it making you happy.

was this an official statement?
link?

Interesting thread. Now it makes me wonder how much will they sell, when they fix them, the refurbished N7s for???

...to be continued!

returned my nexus today by refusing delivery. I have had mine since last Friday courtesy Sam's club where for about the same price as the play store one I also got 5year protection.
