The itch needs to be scratched!

IMHO, Listen is very buggy. I pod cast all the time. forget trying to fast forward through a commercial of some thing still downloading. It will start you at the beginning. this bug has existed for a while, plus the GUI is pretty bad. Google still has this and the maps as a Lab's application. IE: we are all beta testers and the shit will and can fail at any moment, like when your navigating somewhere...

I'm still looking for the best pod caster, id settle for something slightly better.

1: Where are UK users buying them from, and how much?
Direct from google, $529
2: Are UK users suffering the documented 3g issues?
Seems fine, better reception than my old Nokia.
3: It's been a while since I got rid of my Hero, are there more/better games now?
Plenty of decent games around. Space Physics rocks.
4: I wordpress from my current phone quite a bit - does anyone get this done on the Nexus?
There is a wordpress app in the marketplace
5: How is battery compared to iPhone 3gs under similar usage (real experience, not on paper)
Charge every day so yeah, similar.
6: How is the keyboard? I know I'm a bit spoiled right now - but I also know it's a learning curve to some degree.
Keyboard is fine but I use swype or shapewriter as they're both way faster with a bit of practice.
7: If I buy one simfree from Vodafone, are they easy to unlock?
Not sure about this
8: If I was to buy a desire instead, could I "turn it into" a Nexus by tinkering?
See previous answer.
9: I listen to a lot of music with the iPod app - how is the playback on the Nexus?
Playback is fine, get the Meridian Pioneer app as it also has FLAC support
10: I'm big into podcasts too. What are you using to find, subscribe and dl them?
Get the Mypod app and this will search for/download/categorise/update/and even let you know how much of a podcast you've listen to.

I'm in a similar situation. I've looked at the Desire (having just sold my Hero - got fed up of the update keep getting pushed back and decided to just go all out and upgrade), but I'm also suspicious of when updates for the Desire will happen, if it all! I also prefer the Nexus One's physical design a little more, as well as it's 'plain' OS meaning more chance of upgrades.

I've been trying to find a Nexus One in the UK for a reasonable price, and the best I've managed is to try and win one on eBay that comes with all the invoice/receipt documentation so I can use the warranty. Going by my calculations, it's going to cost around 430 pounds to get one direct from Google to the UK. If you have any luck any other ways, update the thread! :)

Hi Martin. Well, the Nexus works out at 366 for the phone using todays exchange rate, plus 60 for taxes comes to 425 ish. 333 was what the phone itself cost when it came up, but things have gone up. If it was more like 390/400 in total then I'd snap it up, but it's a bit more expensive now it seems!

Did you import one?

Save yourself $20, do not buy Google's UK charger it's a shaft! I use an 80p shaver adaptor plug from ASDA with the supplied US charger.

Total cost for me including delivery and VAT was

Yes I did, I'm sure I got a favourable exchange rate compared to the standard one. I'll have to check the invoice. Mind you I bought the UK Charger.

The Tax normally comes a few weeks later so it at least spreads the cost if that's a worry.

Ah ok, fair enough then. If you get the chance to check the invoice it'd be much appreciated, don't worry if not though :). I won't need the charger (already have a USB plug so assume that'll do?).

Interesting...what payment methods can you use to pay the tax?

I'm really keen on getting back into Android, as there's more going on in general. I still have a few concerns though; apps being a major factor (appbrain is great, but in terms of the games it recommends...meh) and purchasing music on the handset (is this possible in the UK?).
I LOVE the widgets etc, and the proper gmail integration is almost worth it alone! I also like the 'upcoming' events widget for the calendar.

All the rest of the features I need seem to be there in some shape or form. I demand quite a lot of different things from my device - for work AND play, and I just have a few reservations about how an Android device will fare for leisure/time passing activities.

Do I jump on board now, in the hope that more decent titles will appear, or that music management (purchasing etc) will improve?

But you can't use it in the UK, can you?

I notice there's now talk of Gingerbread coming QTR4 2010. makes the Nexus a little less of a risk than the Desire.

Just for the hell of it, I just bought a track, works fine.

Hadn't planned to, I was expecting to be given the option to confirm the purchase, but it just does it and charges you lol

My invoice reads as follows:

Nexus One $529
AC Adapter (I Know!) $19.99
Shipping $29.95
Total $578.64

Unfortunately it doesn't have the exchange rate so I can't help any further.

Tax was also just under

Thanks for that Martin, much appreciated! Unfortunately it looks like a N1 is slipping just out of my budget, direct from Google at least. The hunt continues..! :P
