All the way from Windows 1.01 to Windows 8.. Tell us what any of you who wish to respond how you have watched Windows transform. :)

I'm rather young (only 20) so I can only remember as far as back as 98 (for the oldest at least) I fondly remember Windows Me and of course Windows XP.

In my opinion Microsoft has somewhat went downhill since XP. They had a good running with XP, then Vista came out... (lets just pretend that never happened...) Then Windows 7 <3 that was a good version right there. :) Then theres Windows 8..

Testing MetroUI was.. no.

So enough about my opinion. I would love to hear from my fellow AndroidForum brothers and sisters on how they experienced the legacy of Windows.

(That includes anyone who happened to try Windows 1.01 if anyone around here is old enough to have even seen it) :D
 
One moved to China...screw M$. Can't be bothered with it...And I've used Win since 3.0 to 8.0.

Folks if you're in China, use a Mac or a Linux OS.
 
I use windows XP. Lol but I'm new to computers completely. Just starting to try and learn and have no clue what to do to make it better :-(
Hell I can even get my phone to tether with Barnacle to my laptop or my desktop. Been. Trying for days. Haha.

I'd highly suggest getting Linux instead. :D

Or if you're dead set on xp upgrade to 7, xp is a little outdated.
Its a little old to make it better Lol. Linux will make it faster and you don't have to worry about viruses either. :)

I just,started playing with it a few days ago trying to get it to work I also recurved a laptop (also XP) and I'd love to start switching them and improving and learning how to do Cool things with computers. How would I go about doing this? and would this maybe solve my (network cable error:ethernet) problem when attempting to tether and get internet?

This one is my favorite, and one of the more popular distros of Linux (Although some would disagree)
The world's most popular free OS | Ubuntu
Don't worry it'll walk you through the process and it's 100% free! :D
You could also choose to donate however. ;)

They say nobody knows how many Linux distros there are but I've heard over 1,000 now. But anyway..

You can put the .iso files on a flashdrive and boot from the flashdrive. If you have a cd drive you can burn the .iso files on a cd and boot from that instead. You can also run them side by side with Windows OS, or replace Windows OS completely.

Okay so can I load those these as as zip on my phone and then install on a computer? Because ATM we only have my phone for internet and it's not tethering. and this will make my computer and laptop run better? I hate windows lol but I don't know much about computers. How can you tell how much ram your running? :confused: hope I'm not annoying you.

I don't see why you couldn't! Do you have unknown sources checked on your security section of your phone?

Okay. Go ahead and click start and select run. You will type msinfo32.exe in the open box and then you'll click OK.

You need to find the section that has the amount of memory ram and system resources.

Basically all I'm really wondering about it the RAM and whether or not its 32bit. If somewhere it says x86 its 32 bit, and if it says x64 which is 64 bit.

It may seem like it wouldn't matter but trust me its important Lol.

Take your time, I don't have kids yet but I have little brothers and sisters. They're older now but I know how much of a handful kids can be. :p
 
Yeah, I'm a stay at home dad. Lol so I have my hands full during the day. Me and you are very close in age, judging by your name. Lol I'm 22.

Linux Mint on my Lenovo laptop, and I also use a MacBook.

I've already posted in various threads about my experiences of trying to use Windows in the PRC. Decided it's just not worth the hassle and risks.

Yeh...go to a store and buy a Windows Get Genuine Kit....in China? LOL. It seems that I just can't buy a copy of Windows here, only if it comes with a new PC. And then it's the special PRC version that only works in Chinese. Which I'm sure has government back-doors, and Beijing has full access.

Of course you could always use Tor to get around it if you needed to. If you wanted Windows you could have someone send you a cd with windows on it from the States or Europe.

Although I wouldn't bother, the only reason why I still use Winblows is because I need to have it for school. :rolleyes:

But its not to bad, I don't mind having a Windows and Ubuntu Machine. :D

Bring Back Windows XP

XP should have been gone by 2010. Because Vista sunk like an anchor, the company rushed out the adored Windows 7. It's hard to discern the difference between Vista and Windows 7 except for the fact that it appears to be faster. But who knew that Windows 7 was to be the last of the desktop-era computing platforms?
