The Nexus S was faster than my Atrix while tethered to the Atrix

Hiding behind a mystery
Went into the local Telus store (Canada) today and played with the Nexus S this morning. The store’s wifi was having problem, so I took my Atrix out, turned on wifi hotspot and tethered the Nexus S. I then decided to do a ‘browser test’ and open Google search for both of the phones and searched for ‘New York Times’. It took the Nexus S ½ second to show the result while it took my Atrix 3 seconds -_-;; Boooo. I then select the link to NYT and...it took the Nexus S 2 seconds to load the page up while it took my Atrix 10 seconds...WTF BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *bang heads against the wall*. Scroll to a video and guess what…It took the Nexus S much faster to load the video so I was able to watch the video on the Nexus S while my Atrix was streaming. For the life of me, I don’t understand how was it that the Nexus S got better speed than the Atrix WHILE IT WAS USING THE ATRIX’S DATA!!! I wonder…how much more is GB optimized compared to Froyo…lol. That’s the only reasoning I can think of for the result!

Nexus S is much a nicer phone in person than on paper. Reminds me of how the Nexus One was (better looking irl than in photos). I did find the curved SAMOLED screen intriguing. Didn’t have much time to play with it before I had to jet to work.

I still can’t get over the browser test though. Thought I’d share this with you guys, and maybe get some lol over my abysmal Atrix result.

Cheers,
Roze

That's very cool. I believe between the gingerbread optimizations and none if the bloat on the nexus it will always be faster. Pure unadulterated android

Sad thing is...my Atrix is rooted and bloat free XD I didn't think much of GB until now. I always thought it was more of a 'pretty' OS update but I might reconsider that. If it's more than that...I want GB :(

Sell that atrix and by the nexus. I am a true believer all the hardware on the world can't superceed software. The nexus will always be the best all around android

Can't, lol, the Atrix is a gift...and I'm in love with the fingerprint scanner. I'm going to say stupid Google for releasing the 850/1900Hertz model so late in the game...after 5 months after the 900/1700 Hertz Nexus S was released. :/

yeah Roze, I finally saw the light 2 weeks ago and sold my Atrix 4g and bought the Nexus S for ATT, and I`m so much happier, the the whole dual core hype did not live up to its name, the hummingbird processor in the NS does hum, it hums like a mofo :D

Well this was my buying decision between the Atrix and Nexus S: whichever comes first to Canada. Motorola beat Google to it, which I got to say Kudos for them. I really do like the phone, for all its fault, lol. I went into this marriage knowing all the faults the Atrix has and am very happy that the only thing I have to complain is the OK battery life.

I think the real speed increase for the Atrix will come when they release 2.4 with dual-core support for it. The dual-core Atrix will fly then.

yeah after having the Droid x and the Atrix 4g I don`t think I will ever own another motorola I`m looking forward to the next generation of Nexus phones:)

Yes, my thought exactly! I just need to see how well my patience will last! I hope it comes out june/july like how Froyo did...but I feel like it might come out Dec. There's really no point in Google releasing a dual core optimize OS when their flagship phone doesn't have dual core. And I don't think they'll release a dual core Nexus phone anytime soon...so I am fearing that 2.4 might be coming out in Dec with the Nexus 3 :/ I'm sure if the bootloader is not unlocked by then...'Helloooooooo Nexus 3' ;)

As much as I was pissed at Samsung for being late with Froyo, and possibly with GB for their galaxy S, at least they are flash-friendly. Now I am hearing that HTC, like Moto, is becoming less flash-friendly too. HTC? That's really too bad.

Hopefully Google will add better camera/recording support for their Nexus line in the future. It's looking more and more like Nexus for me too.

The Nexus S is snappy however with optimized software I'm sure the Atrix will be great. The browser on the Xoom for example absolutely wipes the floor with the NS.

Cool but hopefully the at&t version will be released at the same time... or maybe there won't be a t-mo version by then.. ;)

I'd expect it to be pentaband (850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz). It could even potentially be compatible with both AT&T and Verizon's LTE networks at the same time (Verizon's LTE uses SIM technology). Considering AT&T will be nowhere near rolling out their 1700 MHz LTE network until mid to late 2012, I doubt this will happen.

On the original post, I'd expect the Atrix probably gives network preference to tethered devices, hence the much slower speed.

I hope so. I think I will wait for the Nexus 3 when all said and done. May buy a used Nexus S in the meantime or just hang onto my Captivate and flash GB ROM on it, when available.

Believe me I just got the Nexus S 2 days ago after having my Captivate. Software is always more important than hardware. There is really a drastic difference between the 2 phones. Was debating about buying galaxy S2 after trying a Nexus phone I will pick a stock Google phone any-day from now on. You can actually enjoy your phone.

Exactly without all the excess garbage and sluggishness
