The Note 7 lives on at Verizon. Just left the Verizon store and called Billing Support to confirm. This is what is being said by both Verizon groups which include the Store Mgr and Duty/Floor Mgr.

- They are zeroing out the charges for the Note 7

- They are resetting the upgrade eligibility for the my account (Note 7) to "upgrade eligible" as of today.

- You can keep the Note 7 and use as before, so the phone is free at this point.

- You can upgrade to another phone at any point and you will be sent a return box for your Note 7 and thus have a payment for the newer phone

- There are no plans to discontinue cellular service or support for the Note 7 either from Verizon or Samsung.

Do you have docs/emails to confirm? I was going to trade ours in for the S7 Edge, in a Verizon store I haven't visited before. Am nervous about the deals I may or may not get, especially since the issue has been very confusing for customers and service providers alike.

This isn't the only place being talked about this. So I'm sure he is telling the truth. There's a thread over on xda forums where a few others have confirmed this as well yesterday. They have made multiple calls and they posted same info as the OP.

Plus I have a buddy who has been working at a Verizon call center for many years and he says that there's no current talk about charging those who keep the note 7 if they choose to. Which I plan to keep using mine.

Just got off the phone with verizon and was basically told the same thing, that we can keep the phone and we dont have to pay payments on it anymore and they will continue updates until samsung says otherwise so i guess the ones that did not exchange them and feel safe with them ENJOY YOUR FREE NOTE 7 until it is mandatory recall i think i will keep mine

I just checked my Verizon Wireless account information online, and can confirm all of the above. Eligible to upgrade again anytime, and no further device payment charges appear. I'm still seeing the $3 monthly charge for the added warranty protection I selected. I'm just going to let that slide for now ;)

Not judging anyone... but just out of curiosity, why would you guys want to keep it? Is it really worth the risk of your own well being along with your loved ones and belongings? While I understand the chances are slim, why take that risk? Plus, along with problems boarding airlines, I would think many public venues may also ban them.

I love this phone very much, but in no way is it a priority over my safety. I'm handling my phone as little as possible, and waiting until my S7 Edge arrives.

My advice is, it certainly is your choice to keep it until someone makes it mandatory to get rid of it, but in the meantime just be mindful of your decisions. It may be way more trouble keeping it that it's worth.

I have been monitoring the temp of the battery and cpu for a while, neither of which has gotten over 100 deg F. Bat. only gets to 84-85 deg F. So the risk if low. If it goes up I will defiantly trade it in, but Samsung nor Verizon have any plans to stop support or service for the Note 7

I am really surprised. Just trying to think through the implications if a phone does catch fire and causes damage or injury: Samsung will say "not us, we told everyone to turn them off and return them". I'll be amazed if the insurer doesn't say "sorry bud, but you carried on using it after you were told it was dangerous, you are not covered". And then the customer says "but Verizon said I'm fine to keep using it..." - where does this go? Have Verizon thought through that they may be making themselves liable in this situation?

On the phone with Verizon right now. Says you must return the phone or you will be charged retail value. They are giving full credit for any payments, taxes etc. paid up to date.

From their site and this is what I'm being told on the phone.

How and when do I ship back my Galaxy Note7?
Verizon will send you a recovery box to ship back your device. Do not send back your device until you receive the recovery box and shipping instructions.

I was also told they will be turning off phone #'s associated with the phone. That said my balance for pay off is $352. dollars? I only made 1 payment. Hope you guys are right.

Just like last time one person says this and one says that [emoji23][emoji23] they told me i would get the return box wen and if i decide to turn it in since the recall is not mandatory

Verizon Duty/Floor Manager just told me the plan is to support the Note 7 for the next 48mos. which is what they do with most of the Note family.

I can't get my head round taking a risk by keeping it for the sake of a phone. I'm a support worker and the very thought of something happening to clients or my family at home.. Just because of a phone that I've known all along I could send back get a replacement.. Incomprehensible. A phone really isn't worth that much of a risk and as this is such a well advertised return I feel the risks would lie entirely with the individual for knowingly continuing to use it.. Personally I'd applaud samsung if they pushed an ota update effectively killing note 7s like they did with the 60% charge.

My wife who has T-Mobile for service, got an email advising her that support for the note 7 would be terminated in the next few weeks. She's got text this morning reminding her she needs to bring her note 7 back in. She's barely had her replacement for two weeks. Now the question is what device does she move too??
