The Note 7 lives on at Verizon. Just left the Verizon store and called Billing Support to confirm.

what bothers me is that some people think that if the battery temps and cpu temps are low during charging the risk is low. the latest info suggests that during the assembly process the batteries are being compressed to the point of deformation. once the battery is crushed it is only a matter of time before something as simple as leaving your phone in direct sunlight could trigger the meltdown. im waiting for the you tube videos of terrorists throwing n7s at innocent victims

Sounds like a case of different departments and divisions at Verizon not all singing from the same hymn sheet. And completely contradicts Samsung's worldwide warnings, about turning it off and turning it in. Give it a day or two, and Verizon might all be in unison then, and giving advice that's consistent with Samsung. Although it took Samsung China over a month to realize that the N7s here are dangerous as well. Which doesn't bother me too much as I'm returning mine for a full refund, and I go on using my OPPO R7 Plus.

I would seriously doubt that a carrier could support it, when the manufacturer isn't.

Agreed. And quite unfortunately, there already are a ton of images and videos joking about this whole deal. I personally find it all in very poor taste. While I definitely enjoy a good laugh, this is not something to laugh about in my opinion, and I just wonder how the people making these jokes would feel if something like this actually happened to them or their family's.

A few of my grade 7 students were joking and having a good laugh about it this morning at my expense. They knew I had one of these things, and this morning it was shouts of "TEACHER, FIRE IN THE HOLD!!" :D But then I pointed out I was now using an Oppo R7 Plus...a Chinese phone. I'm not bothered, the N7 is going back for a full refund, and that's the end of it. :)

Samsung announced today they are offering a full refund plus additional $100 towards purchase of any other Samsung phone (or $25 if you are buying another brand).

There is no doubt that there will remain substantial percentage of stubborn fans who will refuse to exchange their perfectly functional and (most likely) perfectly safe Note 7, despite the mandatory recall, termination of support, and Samsung incentives. Because of these stubborn users, governments may soon institute bans, prohibiting users from bringing the devices on planes, trains, buses, ships.

It will be quite difficult to own this device if you aren't allowed to even bring it anywhere, at the risk of violating law.

Got a link to that?

I guess I'll ride off into the sunset with my 3 free usb-C chargers, headphones, free 256gb sd card and 25 dollars.

Samsung updated their recall page today with the new offer:

What if I want to exchange my Galaxy Note7 for another Samsung smartphone?
As a sign of our appreciation for your patience and loyalty, we are offering up to a $100 bill credit from select carrier or retail outlets if you exchange your Galaxy Note7 for another Samsung smartphone, less any incentive credits already received.

What if I already exchanged my Galaxy Note7 for another Samsung smartphone?
If you already exchanged your Galaxy Note7 device for another Samsung smartphone, you will receive up to a $75 bill credit from select carrier or retail outlets in addition to the $25 you previously received.

I think they should come out with a 64gig S7 Edge and implement some of the Note 7 features to tie us over

At short notice? I think, no chance. Samsung had better get their next flagship phone absolutely perfect, because if they don't I'm sure that could be the end of them, or at least their mobile products division. One thing they could do, give it a removable battery, then recall(s) would be possible without having to scrap the whole product.

In my situation I don't think I could even use an S7. Because someone at the middle school might still think I'm still using a lethal N7 and putting people and property in danger. So I'll keep on using the Oppo. Note7 and S7 Edge do look extremely similar.
