I'm actually...not impressed.
As least not as impressed as I thought I'd be.
This is long, I type a bunch, I have feels and emotions and opinions. Please just skip if you're going to whine about it.
I've had a Note 5 since it released and my guy got a 7 Edge within a week of when it released so I was able to see the sort of performance I could expect from the Note 7 as they're practically the same.
It arrived with a screen protector tip in it and it'd been so long since I swapped a tip that I didn't even think to check it as I became increasingly frustrated while using the phone the first night. I still feel like the screen isn't registering my taps and it's losing track of my swypes, both finger and pen, even with the swap. I've had it happen several times while writing this already.
I very much dislike that I have to pull down twice to adjust brightness. I don't use auto - adjust.
The battery seems worse than my Note 5. From the battery info screen there's some issues already. It was at 100% at noon yesterday and by the time I opened the package at home at 9 PM (delivered at 6 PM) it was around 70%. I recharged to 100%, unplugged, then it sat until 11:30 when I could setup. Battery manager did not register that recharge. 93% at 1 AM, 87% at 7 AM. Had that screen clock thing on.
Left it at home as it is case-less and took my Note 5 on the drive to school to drop off my daughter and began downloading apps and customizing at 9 AM. Downloaded 37 apps, opened Zedge and downloaded 4 songs, took 7 pictures and one 2 minute video, made a GIF. Read on Chrome for 30 mins. That has been the whole morning.
It's 12:47 PM and I'm at 7%.
In comparison, my guy's 7 Edge, day 1, went 22 hours of use (USE, BEING USED) before dying. He's a battery killer, too. Likes to push phones. 2 hr and 30 min of Google Maps is like 3%. ...my Note 7 drained more than that while I slept!
Yeah, the battery is smaller but it isn't THAT much smaller!
Bloatware again (Love the stuff you can't use AND can't remove! Thanks, Samsung Pay!), the speaker and the headphone jack is trash just like the 7 Edge's. Wish they would have sold a non-water proofed version... It's a problem when your vehicle doesn't have Bluetooth. Can't believe how caked and dirty and streaked the screen is already. I had to run with my Note 5 naked for 4 days waiting on a case and screen protector and while the back was certainly a fingerprint magnet I don't recall the front being this bad.
It has tempered glass on it and only recently had started really accumulating gunk. Which is funny cause I'm sitting here thinking that must just be what happens to old glass protectors, need to give her a deep clean (as in not my shirt)... and my new Note 7 turns into that year old protector in 3 hours or less.
3% 1:15 PM
It also froze while I was installing apps. Woo. Recovered within 60 seconds, then remained laggy and jumpy for several minutes before returning to normal. The phone got hot, too. So I guess it's good I don't mass update/install at any point other than set up (I manual that, too.) because my Note 7 can't handle that. Start-up is twice as long as my Note 5 and remains sluggish for several minutes after booting.
Sure, I'm being picky. I wasn't all that excited in the first place for it but my guy's 7 Edge was swaying me into positivity. Great battery life, multi-tasked seamlessly (and still does now), amazing camera and response times, never missed a tap (neither did my Note 5, tho), and as long as you used Bluetooth the sound quality was irrelevant.
Nope.
2% 1:17 PM.
Better finish on the PC...
Turned off at 1:18 PM.
Edge 7? 60 minutes from 4% to dead. Not on battery saver. He was actually TRYING to kill the battery and it wouldn't die. Played Need for Speed or whatever that fancy car game is called and the Edge is like, 'is that all you got? I COULD POWER THE WORLD!11'
...anyway... The GOOD!
I ordered the robin's egg blue and it is absolutely beautiful. I love it! My favorite part is the rose gold bit around the edges, especially on the end of the S-pen. Oh, and I LOVE that the S-pen is also blue! Best looking phone I've ever owned, hands down.
I really like the new camera software. It's so much easier to use/navigate. Though I thought it was strange that the on-screen tutorial told me I could use gestures to make a GIF, however, those aren't working and the GIF button only appeared the first time when it told me to make a GIF. So, I need to spend more time with that and seek out some macro/micro modes, but so far in my limited exposure the camera is absolutely a step up and that's a happy thing.
The screen appears to be vibrant and crisp, however until I sit and overanalyze 4k videos I can't see an immediate difference.
Oh, I really like the new stock clock app, too.

Okay, so, I started writing that Friday and then trailed off to other activities. Late yesterday afternoon I noticed a mark on the Note 7. I wiped it off with a screen cleaning cloth then inspected the screen for other marks to polish off. ...there are four scratches and 3 pock marks on my Note 7. From sitting around and doing nothing. It hasn't been put on its face, it hasn't been put in a pocket or purse, it hasn't been anything but touched and every-so-gently used.
The scratches are along the edge. Right where the edge screen is pulled out from. Yesterday I did some tests to try and get a feel for where to pull the edge tray from and was using my s-pen and finger. My s-pen scratched the screen of my Note 7, which comes with and is meant to be used by the s-pen... The pock marks are all on the bezel (top and bottom) and make no ****ing sense whatsoever. Like, the size of the tip of the s-pen, indented to a permanent mark, but I never used the s-pen on the top bezel so...idfk.
Wrote that then decided to take some pics and found MORE scratches
.
I am very, very unhappy right now.
