The *OFFICIAL* I received Donut OTA and discussion Thread

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question - I'm a HTC Magic user in the UK. It's supposed to be for Vodafone UK, but since it's unlocked I'm using it on Orange UK.

Does anybody know if Donut and future updates are made available directly from Google to the handset, or does the Carrier supply the update?

When I first switched the phone on, it found updates and installed them so I am hoping they are provided by Google, which would mean I still get them.

Orange UK does not carry the HTC Magic so I assume Orange themselves will not push any updates for that handset.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Matthew

Comes from the operator not Google, most operators have a custom Rom and if Orange don't have the Magic you'll have to get a custom dev one yourself. Or put an active Vodafone sim back in it and use it for a bit if you want the Vodafone build.

Vodafone UK to start rolling out Donut from Monday 19th October! Check my other thread for details ;)

@ Trick202 , this is sort of good news for you , hopefully Orange will be handing out your Donut shortly! :p

I hope so. I like to have the latest whenever possible!

I'll be in Egypt then though! So, Donut on the 19th, Win7 on the 22nd.

A good week ;)

I LOVE updates, I do! ;)

What would happen if you got the update and it "failed" or the phone did..

So annoying

? I am not sure what you mean. When the notification came on the screen, I cancelled it because I couldn't do it just then.

I used the update feature to start it at my convience a little while later...

Re: Donut in Canada

Just spoke to Rogers tech support, and was told the only info they have right now is that is _should_ be coming out somewhere near the end of Oct or beginning of Nov. They also said that they didn't know yet if it would be OTA or a download.

But this is Rogers we're talking about here, so take it all with a grain of salt. ;-)

I don't understand, I'm in southern california, I've never done any rooting or anything, and yet I still haven't gotten my Donut update yet.

I got a brand new HTC hero on T-Mobile on Friday and its got Firmware 1.5. Forgive my complete lack of knowledge on all things Android, but how does one get 1.6? Do you just wait for it to be sent over the air?

About 15mins ago I got the update, T-Mobile, G1, UK.

Android market is very sexy now.

Also loving the Google Maps changes.

I bought my Hero from a shop, no contract, nothing, it's just plain HTC Hero with the latest european firmware using 1.5 .

I'm not expecting any OTA notification because O2 UK don't even sell Heroes.

Anyone understand how this is meant to work for us?

Or is it a it grey area because the Hero isn't a "Google" phone, and we'll just have to wait for HTC to issue an update?

I finally got my Vodafone Magic updated this morning.

So far, so good, but the best bit is that the contacts now work properly over BT to my car.

Previously, I only got the number displayed, but now I get name. Hurrah. :)

has anyone noticed that in the market now, the just in section doesnt always update and youhave to exit it a few times to get it to add the recently added apps. i know they should be there as ive sometimes seen em on cyrket.
