Root The Plan

Here is what I want to do; right now on 2.2.1 stock
1. Root phone (Successful)
2. Install a custom recovery.
3. A. Make a back up restore point.
B. Set up adb, so that I can do this. Mac or Windows. Either or.
4. Install a custom rom.

There's a ton of guides but there's no one stop thread with everything like the huawei ascend board. I have created custom restores and messed with Rome on an ascend in times past but it seems optimus m is a bit harder. On a side note does anyone have a 2.2.1 back up file. You know, just in case. I'm happy to read up a lot follow instructions and patiently figure things out when they inevitably go wrong. Lol.
