Help The proxy server is refusing conections on my Nexus tablet.

My son has a Nexus tablet that has Firefox on it. For the last two days he has been unable to use the internet because it keeps giving him the message,

"The proxy server is refusing connections. Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct. "
All the solutions I can find are for Android phones running Firefox or laptops running Firefox even on the Firefox site. They tell me to go places and click on things a tablet doesn't have. I tried using Chrome but got the same message. My Nexus is running fine. I rooted and set up both tablets so I don't understand why his is doing this. All his apps are working fine. It's just his internet access.

Can anyone please help?

Since the device is rooted, maybe the hosts file got corrupted (in /system/etc)? Try temporarily renaming the file and then rebooting to see if it makes a difference. If not, rename back to 'hosts' and verify/set permissions to 644.

Thanks for the fix! It just started happening on my Galaxy S3. Even when I started a new network connection and set the proxy to "none", it seems to have reverted on its own to "manual". Frustration now ended!

This is not a fix necessarily On the Windows side of things this is Adware. I am having this problem and none of my browsers, or WiFi settings are set to proxy. They're all set to none.
