The Real Deal on Transferring Music to SD Card and Car Playback Compatibility

NJRonbo

I understand this question has been probably asked a million times in various forms. I am hoping to get feedback from those who use their Note II or other Android phone to play music through their car's bluetooth/USB internal stereo system.

First, for years I have been using an iPod or iPhone to play music in my vehicle. Using iTunes to transfer music is just plain simple. Best of all, any playlists I create on iTunes on my desktop is automatically transferred to my portable device. Playback on car stereo systems that feature integrated iPod control is flawless.

Now I am looking to use my Android Phone (Galaxy Note II and upcoming Note III) to be the music device. All my music would play off a 64GB SD Micro card.

So here are my questions...

1. What is the best software to transfer music from computer (preferably MAC) to Android phone?

2. Does the recommended software support playlist creation (within the software itself) rather than having to create specific folders and drag music to them?

3. How does the Android phone integrate with car radio systems in preserving playlist structure? I am talking about the more advanced systems like Ford Sync or similar.

4. Anyone using a car system with voice commands that you speak the name of the song you want to play from your Android device? How well does that work?

Just trying to figure out if I will get the same benefits of using an Android phone as I did with my iPod/iPhone

Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

Okay...

Looks like I am in the process of answering my own questions.

iSyncr is pretty remarkable in that it actually allows you to sync your iTunes library (with playlists intact) to your Android device.

I will let you know how well it works with the car's stereo system as far as playback and voice commands are concerned later today.

Be forewarned that if you have your music on the external SD card and you build playlists and then eject the SD card, your playlists will be empty.

I would expect that if you are copying over music with several playlist via iSyncr or DoubleTwist, that information is stored on your external card until you manually delete it.

Why would playlists suddenly disappear just by ejecting the card?

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying here.

How about if I take that same card with music and playlists and put it into another device? My car has a SD drive. Won't the music and playlists show up on that?

tfalk said the playlists would be empty, not deleted... Hard to find the music if the media the music is on is missing.
Maybe he needs to clarify his post.

Doesn't the playlist structure get stored on the SD card itself?

I suppose the best way to describe what I want to do...

Copy my music and iTunes playlists using iSyncr or Double Twist to an external SD Card.

I'll actually be copying it on my desktop Mac.

I can then take that SD card and put it in an Android phone or perhaps in the SD slot of my car and have the music and the playlists show up because all that information was copied to the card.
