The Sims 3 HD for Snapdragon devices

As in, the one that's on the Samsung Vibrant with 3D graphics and all. It's now been modified so it works with Snapdragon devices (N1, Incredible, Desire, EVO, Acer Liquid/Liquid E) instead of just OMAP-powered ones like the Droid/Milestone/X and the Galaxy S line.

I'm not going to link anything because I suspect that's considered a kind of app piracy (but then, even if you want to buy the game you can't pay for it :( bawww). I'm just giving a heads-up that it's out there. Performs great and renders well, too, no slow-downs at all as I expected.

Wow... works really well on HTC Desire. Very smooth and another good example of how Android can compete with iPhone for games, provided devs put the effort in.

Very impressed.

How big is it? IV got about 34mb of space on my phone but astro says I'm out of space when i try to install the game??

Edit: 40mb now and still can't install!

No, dont post links. It violates TOS.

Also, they want access to read and write contact data? With the new trojan that was announced, that sounds sketchy...

That is a little odd. Is there some online aspect of the game that would be a reason for having those rights?

Also, if anyone that has the original non-snapdragon version could speak to whether or not it needs read/write access to contact data that would be helpful.

The game is only about 11-12 MB, for the record. Shouldn't have trouble with internal storage. If you're using Froyo and move it to the SDcard, it only takes up 472 kb (!).

I think the original, unmodified version also requests permissions to read/write contact data and so on. At least, that's what I remember from attempting to install it back then.

You sure? The entry on androlib just has Vibrate as a permission on the original. Having said that I'm a bit surprised it doesn't have the usual phone permissions to handle pauses on incoming calls etc, so I'm sure how correct the androlib entries are in this regard.

The one on Androlib/available on the market is an older version. No 3D graphics, no nothing. It looks like the version they made for non-touch Nokias.

Also now that I look it up, holy shit, the unmodified apk is 73 MB. Which begs the question of how the Snapdragon version is only 12 MB. Weird. Brb, going to take apart the original .apk and see what's in there.

Mine runs very choppy when i go to someones house, or my own. Almost impossibly choppy. Anyone having this problem? Is it related to fps?

Yeah, I had this a bit. In my house it was okay, and on the town area is was very smooth... but when I went to someones big house, it got VERY choppy. It was probably just about playable (and the iPhone version does lag a bit) but I couldn't really be bothered.

As far as I can tell, it is a bit of a hack to make it compatible with snapdragon, so don't expect totally optimised performance.

Runs okay on my Streak with 1.6.
Runs better on my Nexus One with 2.2. :D

It'd be nice to see some more games for Android by EA. When it's released I'll be sure to buy it.
