I never had chicken pox Mike, so do me a favor and stay on the opposite side of the globe from me for the next couple weeks.:D

OK I will. Actually it doesn't seem to be as contagious as I first though. Seems it can only really be transmitted to people who've never had chickenpox, by direct physical contact with the affected area. It's not airborne. That's why the doctor didn't think there would be a problem, and just prescribed a course of medicines. There is some transfer factor capsules to build immunity, Polymyxin B antibiotic skin cream, and Famciclovir anti-viral tablets. These are western medicines, not Chinese remedies.

One of the Mongolian doctors who's a friend saw my Wiexin microblog entry showing the medicines and prescription, and suggested a bloodletting session. Which is ancient Mongolian medical treatment.

Seriously, get well. I hear it can be quite painful.

Thanks. :) It's more aches than anything at the moment. For the last couple of days, I was aching a bit on right side. Originally thought I'd overdone it playing basketball. But then saw the marks this morning, so thought better go see doctor because I didn't know what it was at first.

I hope you get it all sorted out, mike. My uncle's wife got the shingles some time ago and it's best to get it cured asap! They say that you'll die once the snake-like marks meet at the back.

Far most people getting shingles are beyond the age of 60 :D
Stay cool, Mike. No reason to start writing your memoirs yet.

Thanks wynd. Don't want any snakes meeting on my back, that's not good. Anyway learned a bit more Chinese today. 带状疱疹 d

There's the prescription and the medicines, if anyone's interested?

I got it just two weeks after my 50th. Originally had the chickenpox when I was 8. Came as a bit of a surprise really, I've not had to see a doctor for years. And only time had any problems in last couple of years, was some minor food poisoning from some crappy restaurant in Hong Kong.

Not traditional Chinese medicines?

Well they're made in China, but they're not traditional though. One of the Mongolian doctors, who's a friend, suggested I go for some Mongolian bloodletting, a thousand year old treatment, at the Mongolian hospital. Which practises traditional Mongolian treatments and remedies.

Are you going to do it?

Is Western medicine common where you are, Mike?

Seems to be. They seem to separate Chinese treatments from Western treatments. They're separate departments in the same hospitals. I just went to the out-patiants dept, and saw a doctor straight away. She took one look at me and wrote out the prescription.

The traditional Mongolian treatments are done in a separate Mongolian hospital.

Bloodletting was common during the Plague, too. Didn't work out too well for them. Personally, I'd head over to Roswell, NM and ask to see one of the alien doctors.

Seriously, just because people have been doing something for a long time doesn't necessarily mean it works or is even good for you.

I had it a few years back (in my 40's). Can't even remember what I took, though obviously it must have been an antiviral of some sort.
It clears up well enough, but I'd seriously avoid bloodletting - reminds me too much of the Blackadder episode where the Elizabethan doctor recommended leaches no matter what the problem was ;)

Mike, my mom gets shingles all the time, she has an autoimmune disorder that keeps it in her system. Take your meds, rest, and you'll be good as new before you know it. Ok, maybe not that soon, but you'll be fine :) hope you are feeling better soon

LOL, ironically, they have found some very therapeutic uses for leaches, especially when re-attaching severed fingers. The natural anticoagulants in the leeches saliva promotes healthy blood flow to allow rapid healing.
