Hi Guys,

This is a god thread, but have only just joined the forum and read the first 50 and jumped to the end, so please forgive me Liamo-210 and others if I have missed what I am looking for.

I'm a bit dum, (a lot really), about IT and Android and iOS, but have PC computer and an android smartphone ( HTC Desire), which I don't fully understand but got it a year ago so I could have my photographs on. I am a very keen photographer who retired a couple of years ago and am now over 70, but still busy.

I want to get a good tablet and decided that android was the way to go, so looked for a site that has lots of wise people on it .........This one.

Looking for quality screen and good performance. No games, but do like films and videos and will want a good photography display. Also need e-mail and calendar, some office App for file records and would like reading technical stuff on photography etc. with e-books if they exist. Security is important and would like an App that would allow me to lock certain files that I need access to.

Will buy retail locally (Birmingham - UK ) to have a base to get at if needed and would love to have some training locally if possible. Top end, possibly Asus Transformer Infinity TF700T, or the Nexus ? but 10" model not the Mini size. If anyone can suggest some others I should look at, or good and bad of the ones mentioned, it would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking

Alex

Hi. I really think you can't go wrong with the nexus 10. It is really good and cheap. You could buy it off the play store or get it in a shop. It also has the best screen resolution of any tablet. If you have any more questions please ask.

The only android tablets worth looking at are the TF700, Nexus 10/Nexus 7, and the Galaxy Note 10.1 imo.

The TF700 has the advantage of having a proprietary keyboard dock that gives you a touchpad mouse, full keyboard, standard usb 2.0 port, standard SD card port, and a second battery to extend the life. Without the keyboard, it has a microSD card port, HDMI out, and is 1080p Super IPS+ display that is quite beautiful. However the keyboard comes separate and will cost extra making it the most expensive tablet. I would only get this tablet if you want the keyboard.

The Nexus tablets have the advantage of being the cheapest, but still are great quality. They also run AOSP which will allow the to be kept up to date with all the latest android os releases for a while. The Nexus 10 has possibly the highest resolution of any tablet on the market, but has not expandable storage. It also takes a while to charge the battery in it.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is an interesting device that comes with a stylus pen and has access to Samsung's Multi-Window feature which increases utility. It is skinned with Touchwiz so it will slow down updates a tad.

Overall you can't go wrong with any of these tablets and it really comes down to what you want to do with it.

That was quick. Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.

I thought the Asus looked good, but then saw that they had not long been manufacturers of tablets, more for parts. All the reviews seem to be good.

Does anyone know if this tablet has been used to sync Wi-Fi or Eye-Fi with a DSLR camera.

Also, can anyone tell me if there is a word program that will allow me to secure a folder with a password for added security of some things.
