I think "teach" in quotes is the right expression for that....phew! I just stick to teaching primary school and middle school at the moment. I have a bachelor's degree that I bought from Ebay...JK.

Every school around here is cutting positions....Public school teachers are well paid here.....

Shouldn't that be Bejing duck?

Yup... many restaurants still call it Peking Duck on their English menus. Either is OK IMO.

When I went to school in the 1970s the capital of China was Peking, we'd never heard of "Beijing"...what's that? LOL. The IATA code for Beijing Airport is "PEK", that's never likely to change.

Was only in the 1980s and the international adoption of Hanyu Pinyin rather than Wade–Giles, that it changed. Same for Canton - Guangzhou, Nanking - Nanjing, Amoy - Xiamen, etc. However the English speaking world still calls Hong Kong "Hong Kong", they don't say Xianggang, same for Macao - Aomen.

Normally teaching is a cutting position, and is generally well paid in many countries. However here in China I know some foreign teachers with phoney credentials they bought on Ebay. We call them FILTH (Failed In London Try Hangzhou)...Which used to be Failed In London Try Hongkong, until the HK education authorities cracked down on it.

They are closing schools left and right in my county. It's really sad because the class size is getting bigger, the teachers are getting paid the same amount as last year, the aides were fired, the buses are packed.... and I can't homeschool. :( I used to, but due to marital circumstances beyond my control, I now have to work.

Both my Sister-in-law and her husband are teachers ... this is their house. Bing Maps - Driving Directions, Traffic and Road Conditions

Can't go by that. My house where I live was selling for $950,000 a few years back. I bought it in 1996 for $287,500. Went up to $950,000. Now can get about $850,000. But....same house located further east on long island, not in the top school district, sells now for about $200,000. My school taxes alone are $8,600 per year.

My house in other areas of NY? Under $150,000.

$150k or $900k, it's a comfortable house in a nice neighborhood with all the amenities. Two kids through college and a little put away. Can't complain.

Well, let's switch places :-) I've seen the southwest of the US. Loved it. And way better wetter. Amsterdam now: 2 degrees C, clouded.

Won't make much difference here in the Mid-Atlantic (around Philadelphia). We have pretty much the same weather. Right now it's 3
