The useless(But sometimes funny)app thread

I've seen talk of some of the more "useless" apps for the iphone lately(Champagne bottles, bottle caps, farts, etc..), and thought maybe a thread on them here would be interesting, so here goes.

Please list here any apps that you masy have that are basically useless functionality-wise, but are gag apps, funny, strange, or even just plain stupid. Please note they have to be compatible with the Moto Droid(which is why this thread is in this subforum).

On my Droid are:
FartDroid
Champagne
Dildroid(Somehow works for a laugh with the women:rolleyes:)
Spark
Beavis and Butthead Soundboard
Sound Grenade
Tricorder
 
I could do without the devs who dump dozens of apps into the market in one toss. They (barely) figure out how to do one thing, then give you eeny-wheeny variations of it, up da wazoo. I'd pay serious money for an app to filter those bozos out of my view!

Metal Detector should not be on this list. It is a very practical app.

Next time you hang a picture, or drop something in the grass, try using it. It works.

thats funny, i never thought if that, i uninstalled metal detec cause i thought it was useless, now i am going to reinstall cause i have dropped alot of things in the grass and spent over an hour looking for them.

i personally like
bic concert lighter (its customizable)
soundboards (all of them)
 
do you really want to be scrubbing your screen around in the dirt to find a tac/nail?
I can't get the freakin app to work without the metal actually touching the phone.

LOL! Try putting the phone upside down, or simply flipping it, gives false readings all the time.:rolleyes:
 
My favorite useless app is "Shoryuken". It makes you feel like a true street fighter. Very useless, but cool if you were a fan of the game.
 
my friend has this app on his iphone.. it sends on a high frequency noise which only younger kids are able to hear. apparently you lose your lose ability to hear higher pitches as you get older. out of 10 people at a table, i was the only one who couldnt hear it.

OK, so, TBH, this sounds like a gag I'd pull on my friends, hence my thinking this. It is entirely possible that this is actually a real app that really does what it says, an that you weren't taken in.

However, I still believe you were. And, furthermore, I now have fuel for a new practical joke to play on one of my 'older' buddies....

Muahahahahahahahahahah :D
 
Heh - kewl. I'll get my sister to get it to see if I can still here them.

I only last year discovered that I have Tinnitus in my ears - I thought it was a normal thing, b/c it never bothered me much, and it was more pronounced around television sets (I could be in a room almost 100 feet away from our old TV and I still knew when it was powered on, even though the rest of my family could never hear it).

However, I have noticed that having something at the right frequency helps drown out the ringing (almost as if it is performing some sort of frequency cancellation) - a good source of whine is my CPU and north bridge coolers, which have adjustable speeds. Now, most of the time, in front of my computer, I don't hear the ringing....

Anyhoo, to make a long story longer, when I had my hearing tested, there were 2, maybe 3 times when the tones were almost the exact pitch of the ringing in my ears. But, I was still able to hear them.

Oh, I'm turning 39 in 2 months....

Still, if I was able to hear them 2 years ago in the testing, I should still be fine....
 
Dog Whistle is a fully customizable app that emits any frequency you choose.
It is true that we lose our ability to hear in higher pitch as we grow out of our twenties. I tried this experiment on my 6 year old daughter, and she could hear beyond a frequency range that I could no longer hear.
...I also drive the neighbors dog nuts with this app. :p

Metal Detector would be just about useless as anything other than a stud finder, except hitting the menu will show that you can adjust the sensitivity. Setting it to maximum sensitivity would keep your phone out of the dirt while looking for your lost whatever.
Keep in mind, though; it's using the magnets inside the phone, so it won't find anything that isn't ferrous.

I disagree about Tricorders use/ful/less/ness. I like it. At the very least, it does have a WiFi detector.
 
Cat simulator - the description in the market, warning upon installation, and "about" screen are all Hilarious

Tricorder - has lots of fune/useless info like signal strength, spectrum of received sound, etc. And looks and sounds like a tricorder :)

That's either the sound grenade app already mentioned or the Mosquito tone, which has been out for a couple years now. It's usually a 17kHz tone, most adults over about 25 can't hear it. When it came out a lot of teenagers would put it as their ring tone in school so most teachers wouldn't hear their phones ringing. I can hear it just fine in my right ear, but got damage in my left ear playing a gig so no go there. I'm getting close to 30, so my hearing is still pretty good, at least in my right ear.

I have a few soundboards; Office Space, South Park, Team America, etc, but don't use them too often. Another one I have but don't use too often is Spark, which simulates those lightening globes. I also have the Staples "That Was Easy" button.

Retailers started using a similar tone to deter loitering. The sound would annoy the younger kids, causing them the leave, while older patrons remained unaware of it. Some creative kid turned the concept around and used it to his/her advantage - as a ringtone. As you say, most teachers wouldn't be able to hear it. I imagine that with a tone like that, it's difficult to tell where it's coming from even if you CAN hear it.
