Root Theme Icon ?

I have a question on how to change icons back to the theme version after an app update. So after an app updates it changes back to the stock icon. Can I just reapply the theme and get the icons back to the themed version or do I have to wait until the dev updates the theme?

I'm using blue nex theme with UD8. But I've been thinking about 928 smoked glass, kind of want to give that a try.
