Themes help Battery Life?

Hey all,

So the main purpose of my Xperia S is just to use it as a phone, text and call, rarely play games and just general check up on internet and social sites, so I would say I am a moderate user.

What I wanted to find out is would rooting, or putting on certain themes, apps help increase battery life or decrease it? I always see people putting themes on and widgets etc.. But when I had the s2, the battery life was shocking (or at least for me it was).

So any sort of guidance or help to say what is hot and what is not? :-)

Cheers :-)

There are all sorts of complicated things you can do to reduce voltages or drop clock speeds that will save some power though they could potentially affect stability.

Without getting in to that there are some fairly obvious things you can do to help. I always drop the Power Widget on a home screen. This lets me keep WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and sync turned off when I'm not using them as they're very power-hungry.

I also keep brightness on Auto and the screen timeout fairly low. If you're really keen, you can minimise brightness further, avoid animated themes - you can even go so far as to choose themes that are mostly black.

Other things to look out for are Location Services and Google+ - from what you say about your usage, you should keep these turned off.

You should also check apps that sync - e.g. e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, News, Weather - and turn off any you don't actually use.

This will probably make a big difference, though I wouldn't expect to get anywhere close to the battery life old school Nokia 'dumb' phones got.

Juice defender was one of my favourites until I got to using tasker.

My internet turns off when my screen is off and back on when the screen is back on.

Yeah I've had the phone for 2 days now, it's a good phone, I wouldn't say a great phone at the moment. The screen to me seems a bit shoddy, although it is suppose to be a good screen. The phone itself looks like a slab... hmmmm... It's not enticing me at all. I am just waiting for the phone to be unlocked before I can fully use it properly.

Ah ok, I used to use juice defender on my S2 and that was really good :-)

Again I used to use themes on my s2 as well and it didnt really help me with much with battery life.

I've messed about with settings so I only receive updates when I go onto the social apps.

Hopefully this phone is as good as Im reading for the moment.
