Theming Stock ROM Notification Bar

I have a Desire HD and found a decent replacement Notification Bar. It's downloaded as "framework-res.apk" do I just want to install that or do I have to mess around with it more??

I have rooted the phone, just not wanting to upgrade the ROM yet... it's only a few things I'd change anyway.

no, but i found a thread on xda saying how to do it (complete with flashable zip, so i swapped the one from there for the one i wanted to use) and it got stuck in a boot loop :(
luckily i had backed up earlier on today so i just recovered that... amy idea what could have gone wrong with it?

I thought so.

I downloaded the blank template like he says to do in the top post (clockworkmod 3) and swapped the blank .apk for the one I had (second link) and re-zipped it. Booted into clockwork recovery and went to update, found the cwm3.zip and selected it. It flashed fine and rebooted, then it said that sense failed and force closed, same with sms and mms and something else (didn't see what) and then it would reboot and do the same thing.

So I used my recovery to get me back to here :)

Makes sense, when u get a bunch of force closes, it basically usually mean that a system file is incompatible with the launcher, in ur case, the framework apk is messing up sense launcher thus making force closes
Ok, try putting the framework apk into system/framework
Then reboot

Yea I looked at the phone and thought "well that's not right" then went and restored and continued digging for a reason.

I'll try putting it in there in the morning (I think 03:20 is late enough for bed) seeing as I have root explorer now ;)

Well that didn't work :( I really want the icons from the second posts framework..... would I be able to swap the icons into the first posts frameworks?

How does it work? What do I need??

Check here. I've used it to make a transparent status bar. You just need to find the right files. If that frame-res is for your specific phone you might be able to use MetaMorph. Alternatively you could unpack the frame-res apk and get the files you want and use NinjaMorph.

erm........... second i believe it was......... that's the one that makes the irritating sound

Im not exactly sure with desire, but with my galaxy s, a framework apk change take a longer time to boot up, its the stuck on first Samsung screen that I worry about, if you make it past that or in ur case the whatever still boot logo, then just wait for a few minute if the animation is moving because it usually works

It isn't taking ages to boot, its looping the animation and never gets past it.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look later at that :)

It keeps on saying "Make sure you have enough space in /system" on startup of ninjamorph.......... any idea why? Metamorph DID work and now suddenly comes up with the same thing

I tried it, really nice, but it did show up once for no system space, I restartedand its fine, try unistalling and reinstalling
