Root "There is a problem parsing the package"

Newbie
I searched the forum and found a couple threads with the problem, but I couldn't figure out the answer. I'm trying to install some apk's via the file explorer and when I click on it to install it says "There is a problem parsing the package"

I have root (tested in terminal) and checked allow installation of non-Market applications. What am I overlooking? thanks

Where exactly did you get these apks? Have you ever installed them before? They might just be corrupt packages.

Which file explorer are you using?
Try downloading Astro (free) and install using that. If you are using Astro, let me know and we will go from there.

From different places. I tried downloading a few. And a few were some that I had saved to my computer and which I have used (and worked) in the past.

Thank you. That worked. I wasn't aware that a specific program should be used to install these since I've used different programs in the past. But its fine now.

I dont know why that happens, but for some reason, apks wont install sometimes. For example if you are trying to install from an email.
I know astro ..usually.. will work. Unless of course the apk is just corrupt like akaz mentioned.
