Funny how people think that if they put it there... then hey it MUST be OK and I have nothing to worry about right?????

Its sad watching people line up like cattle and accepting "the way it is"

Thanks to the devs that work on my model I am CIQ free and wouldnt have it any other way :)

How do you know these devs don't hide something in their roms? When it comes down to it you don't know if something you install on your phone isn't more harmful than what was on it in the first place. This includes apps.

I think your just becoming paranoid.....;)

I agree. Don't you agree to much of this stuff when you sign your carrier agreement, play with Google or DL an app from the market? I know that some apps do all sorts of stuff. I know this because they tell me so.

I do not think they do. But what do I know. It seems rather odd that some people do not trust the stock ROM or carrier or vendor without knowing what is so bad about the firmware, but they seem to trust ROM developers without knowing much, either.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying the Rom developers are bad. I was just pointing out how trusting people are that they would trust someone they never met who works out his home more than let's say Google or the wireless companies. Heck I laugh when I read install this Rom at your own risk. Not responsible for whatever happens to your phone. Now if Google would say that with their operating systems. These same people would be saying bull you made it your liable if it messes up my phone.

Love people who drapes themselves in the flag and constitution but don't know what it really means.

Many devs have the source code readily available if you want to see it or compile it yourself. This isn't always true, but many do this, so you can see everything with complete transparency.

you have a good point but to be honest I would trust a stranger working out of his house before I would trust a large corporation or my own government, and thats sad in itself but it shows the state of our nation. The only other reason is that the guy is doing it for the love of computers and electronics, and the passion of his hobby. he gets no money or power for doing it.

Besides with all these devs around, i would think (hope) that another one would open his files and point out that the guy is up to no good as most of thes guys share and exchange work and files and codes and such... Although im sure thats just wishfull thinking on my part. lol

The unibomber worked out his house.:p

I actually welcome tracking in the right hands and for the right reasons. Unless im mistaken this is in reference to carriers tracking what you do. They do this to improve their own systems.

Btw i track more than most would imagine on every website i dev. This website tracks more than you probably realize. Sure some people abise it but the majority of us do it to improve the sites searchability and usability.

As for phones one advantage would be with real time traffic in navigation. I dont believe google does this now but it would improve a commute for me if they did

My Droid X has the locked bootloader, so would flashing a new ROM even do any good for getting rid of Carrier IQ on my phone?

If not, maybe I'll make the upgrade to a Galaxy nexus sooner than I planned. Not due until August, but I have the early upgrade available. I'd rather wait for another gen or two, I still like my DX, but I don't like this CIQ thing, and I'd like to get rid of it. Although if they have all my texts, I'm sure someone somewhere is enjoying some of the convos I've had a with a couple ladies!

Download the free Voodoo Carrier IQ app from the market and have a look.

Downloaded that and the Lookout one, and the Droid X doesn't have CIQ. Andfrom what I'm reading, no Verizon phone does. So I can hold onto my DX until something comes out that blows me away. Haven't seen it out there yet.
