Hello all ,

I am considering rooting my Inspire but before i do I was just wondering if anyone can answer this question. What benifit do i get from rooting....What will i be able to do differently? If anyone can help me understand the benifits of rooting i would greatly appreciate it

You can install custom roms, personalize your phone in a deeper way. You can install any app downloaded from the internet. You can install some apps that wont work without rooting like wifi tethering, screenshots and others.

Not wanting to be a jackass here, but there is a folder called "All Things Root"...check it out! So that being said, I'll give you my experience...I was terribly hesitant to root my phone. Lots of fear...what if it screws up, what if i brick my phone, what if i need to send the phone in...etc...

I used the Ace Hack Kit...as long as you read the effen-manual, you'll have no problems at all. I tried to read the manual before beginning the process, and since i really didn't know much about the inner workings of the phone, i might as well have been reading Swahili(which is not a native language to me). After doing lots of reading in the forum, I decided to jump in and give it a shot. The manual is in fact a word for word instruction guide, and all of the things that made no sense to me, made perfect sense as I started the process. I find myself to be relatively competent, but this process didn't require much. The developers did an awesome job.

Once I completed the root process, I copied the rom I chose to my SD card(Coredroid v8.1)), and flashed it using the directions in the effen-manual. I have never been happier. I have reclocked my CPU, removed all the ATT bloatware, and continue to fully customize my phone more daily.

The biggest gain for me is that I no longer am a slave to what ATT wants me to have/do with my phone. No one can make you keep certain programs on your new computer at home, why should your phone carrier do that to your phone?

Android is all about personal customization...its why i'm here...otherwise I'd still be rocking my iPhone 4(which was a nice piece of machinery)...but I don't like being locked into anything. Now i'm not, and won't be again!!

besides, if you need to return it to stock...the effen-manual can walk you through that too.

Good luck and happy rooting!!!

for starters... you can delete those pesky bloatwares. :-)
flash new ROM, I have tried two... decided to stay with CM7.
Customize your phone like there is no tomorrow. seriously. you can change the look anytime all the time depending on your mood. (well, you can do that without rooting but this is more in depth customization).
your phone will be faster. boots up faster etc. etc.
you can download more apps (esp the ones for rooted phones only).

it will be your phone. nobody can dictate to you how many lines, boxes, apps, widgets you can have or how it looks.

good luck!

PS: if you are not techy look for attn1, he rooted mine via remote access to my pc. he might be able to help you.

I was just about to start a thread like this, but instead I think it would be better if I asked my questions here instead of in a new thread.

I was curious if rooted people are experiecing the same HTC bugs that the rest of us are. Random issues with the Car pannel, and with the headphone jack/voice dial.

Any improvement on batterylife?

What happens to all the apps I currently have? Would some of them stop working if I was rooted?

Does sense still work for misplaced/lost phones?
